This chapter shall apply only to children eighteen years of age and under, not inmates of a State institution, or any institution incorporated incorporat-ed under the laws of the State for the care and correction of delinquent children. "Delinquent child" shall include- any child eighteen years of age or under such ago who violates any law of this State, or any city or village ordidanco, or who is incorrigible, or who knowingly associates with thieves, vicious or immoral persons; or who is growing up in idleness or crime; or who knowingly visits or enters a house of ill repute; or who knowingly patronizes or visits any policy shop or placo whoro pools are sold, or place where any gambling devise is or shall bo operated; or who patronizes or visits any saloon or dram shop whore intoxicating liquors are sold; or who patronizes or visits any public pool or billiard room or bucket shop; or who wanders about the streets in the night time without being on any lawful bussiness or occupation; or who habitually wanders about any railroads or tracts; or jumps on or attempts to board any moving train; or enters any car or engine without lawful authority; or is guilty of defacing or of writing on any wall, fence, or building or in any public or private place, any vile, obscene, vulagr, profane, or indecent in-decent language, or drawing auy obscene or vulgar picture or pictures; or is guilty of any immoral conduct in any public or private place or about any school house. Any child committing any of these acts herein mentioned shall be deemed a juvenile delinquent person, and shall be proceeded against as suth in the manner provided in this chapter. 720x29 Abuse of children. Penalty. Any person over eighteen years of ago, who having the care, custody, control, or charge of a child under eighteen wilfully ill treats, neglects, abandons, or ex-B ex-B poses such child, or causes or procures such child to be ill treated, neglected, abandoned or exposed in any I mannor likely to cause such child unnecessary suffering or serious injury to its health or morals, shall bo I guilty of an offense, under this chapter, and on conviction thereof, shall be liable, at the discretion of the j I court, to a fine not exceeding $100, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or to both such I fino and imprisonment. 720x37. Aiding the dependency or delinqnency. Penalty. Any person over eigh- B teen years of ago who, by any act, words or conduct, or by the omission to do anything required by law to bo done, aids, abets, encourages, contributs to or becomes responsible for the dependency, neglect, or delinquency of auy juvenile, so defined by the laws of this state, shall bo deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction con-viction thereof shall bo liable to a fine not exceeding $100. '07, p 247. ii,, Children not to be on streets, when. Penalty. It shall bo unlawful for any person undor fourteen years of ago to bo or iemain in or upon any of the streets, alloys, or public places in auy city, town orvillagoin the State ot Utah at night after tho hour of nine o'clock, unless such person is accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other person having the legal custody of such minor porsou, or is in performance of an errand or duty directed by such parent, guardian, or other person having tho care and custody of such minor person, or whose employment makes it necessary to bo upon said streets, alleys, or public places during the night time after said speeifiod hour. Any person violating tho provisions of this section shall on conviction, be fined in any sum not to exceed $5 for each offense, and shall stand committed until such fine and costs are paid. '03, p. 74. 720x50. Guardians, etc., not to premit. It is hereby made unlawful for any parent guardian, guar-dian, or other person having the legal care and custody of any person under fourteou years of age, to allow or permit any such child, ward, or other person under such age, while in such legal custody, to go or bo in or upon any of the streots, alloys, or public places in said city, town, or village, within tho time prohibited in Section 720x49, unless there exists a reasonable necessity therefor. Any person violating tho provisions of this section shall, on couviction, be fined in any sum not exceeding $10 foroach offense, and stand committed until such fine and costs aro paid. '03, p. 74.
