Show I mmim-:m Edson Barney Alvey ESCALANTE Edson Barney Alvcy, age 82, died February 25, 1994, in Washington, Utah. He was born Sept. 23, 1911, in Escalantc, Utah to William M. and Lillis Ellen Barney Alvcy. He married Marion Iona Peterson on August 2, 1935, in the Logan LDS Temple. He graduated from Brigham Young University and taught science at Escalantc High School for 36 years. Edson loved the outdoors, especially espe-cially the Escalantc desert country. He was very knowledgeable about the history and geology of the Escalantc area and enjoyed sharing his interests with others. He was active in the LDS Church and served in the Escalantc South Ward Bishopric as the Sunday Sun-day School Superintendent for many years and as a Boy Scout Leader. Edson loved his family, was greatly loved in return and will be missed by them. He is survived by his wife, Iona Alvcy of Escalantc and his two daughters: Arvonnc and her husband hus-band Dec Whittakcr of Washington, Utah and Lana and her husband Tom Jordan of Duchesne, Utah. There arc seven grandchildren: Heidi, KimbcrLcc, Kcllic, Holly, Shan, Kcnyon and Eric and two great-grandchildren: Alexandra and Kadcn. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, 1994 at 12 p.m. in the Escalantc LDS Slake Center. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Escalantc Cemetery under the direction of Mctcalf Mortuary of St. George. Lenore Elizabeth Martin PANGUITCH Lenore Elizabeth Eliza-beth Martin, 77, of Panguilch passed away February 20, 1994 in St. George, Utah. She was born July 1, 1916 in Illinois. She came to Panguitch some years ago with her husband John Martin to own and operate a local business. They later divorced. Survivors include a special friend in Panguilch, two nieces in New York Cily, N.Y. and the staff and her friends at the Porters Nursing Nurs-ing Home in St. George where she resided the past nine years. Burial was in Santa Ana, Calif. Wilford Gary Orton PANGUITCH Wilford Gary Orton, 60, of Parker, Colo., died Feb. 28, 1994 in Kit Carson, Colo. He was born Dec. 24, 1933 in Provo, Utah, to Max and Thclma Pendleton Orton. He married Darlcnc Talbot July 17, 1954. They were later divorced. He worked for Edison Brothers Shoes from 1955 to 1972 in Reno, Ncv.; Hawaii, San Diego, Calif.; and Phoenix, Ariz. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Hawaii' during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by three daughters, Wendy Faumui, Ronda McGomcry and Tracey Ncwsomc; four f mndchiliircn' two brothers and one sister, Max Vcrgcnc Orion, Gordon Rex Orton and Thclma Maxinc Haws. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gary Russell Orton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Mar. 8, 1994 at 1 p.m. in the Panguitch 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 184 North 300 East, Panguitch, Utah. Friends may call on Tuesday from 1 1:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Panguitch Cemetery with military rites by the Panguitch American Legion. Funeral Directors, Ncal S. Maglcby & Sons, Richfield, Utah. Mary E. Manker PANGUITCH Mary Ethclda Ashcraft Manker, 84, died February 10, 1994, in Panguitch, Utah. She was born February 15, 1910 in Robison, Ind. to Asa Edgar and Eva Lucille Fields Ashcraft. She married Robert Haskell Manker, Sept. 2, 1941. He preceded pre-ceded her in death Dec. 27, 1980 Mary's family moved to Indianapolis, Indi-anapolis, Ind. in 1914. She grew up in a musical family where each child studied voice and two instruments. instru-ments. Mary studied piano and mandolin. She and her two sisters, Doris and Rose, sang trios as the Ashcraft Sisters and Mary also sang in her church choir. Mary graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis Indi-anapolis in 1929 and was employed by a credit company for 10 years before moving to Santa Monica, Calif., where she worked for Douglas Dou-glas Aircraft for several years and for Bob Manker. They moved to Faycttcvillc, Ark. in 1941 and to Reno, Ncv. where she and Robert operated their own shoe repair shop in Sparks, Ncv. for many years. After retiring to Escalantc, Utah in 1971, they occasionally did shoe and boot repair since there was no local shop. Mary was an active member of both the Soroptimists and BPW clubs of Reno and Sparks, Ncv., attending many of their conveniens. conven-iens. Mary loved people and made a lol of friends in lown. She especially enjoyed the Senior Citizen group and nearly always attended. Although she had no children of her own, she was especially close to her two nieces, Karen Parker Barry and Phyllis Ashcraft Girdwood, several of Robert's nieces and nephews and Thais and Gene Griffin's Grif-fin's family. They were her family. Mary's love was unconditional and dependable. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two sisters and one brother, Doris Manker, Faycttcvillc, Ark.; Rose Parker, Escalantc, Utah and Edgar Ashcraft, Zionsvillc, Ind. Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 14, 1994 at the Escalantc LDS Stale Center with Bishop Marc McLcmorc of the Escalantc 1st LDS Ward officiating. Gary Griffin offered the family prayer prior lo the opening of ihc service. Prelude and postludc music was performed by Kathy Griffin, followed by an invocation by Thais Griffin. Tributes were offered by Fay Alvcy and Karen Barry, followed by Phyllis Alvcy giving the benediction. Pallbearers were Gene Griffin, Gary Griffin, Brent Griffin, Wayne Banks, Brent Cotlam and Mclvin Alvcy. Inicrmcnl was in the Escalantc Ccmcicry with Brent Griffin performing per-forming the dedication of ihc grave, under the direction of Ncal S. Maglcby Ma-glcby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield. |
