Show CSHBP Doiti H T BOP I Northern Utah Honor Band ' departed on a three-concert tour of Europe under the direction of Greg I. Hanson, conductor. Their 1978 concert' season began on June 4 with a concert at St. Mark's Cathedral, Salt Lake City. On June 5 they played at Weber State College prior to depart-,ing depart-,ing for Europe. THEIR FIRST concert scheduled overseas was at Broxbourne Civic Hall, Hoddeson, England on June 10. The remainder of their concert tour is as follows: June 12, De Treemter Balk, The Netherlands; June 13, Franciscus Church, Bols-ward, Bols-ward, The Netherlands; June-15, June-15, Place D-Arm, Luxembourg; Luxem-bourg; .June 17, Saarbrucken, Germany; June 21, Schran-nensaal, Schran-nensaal, Dinkelbuhl, Germany; Ger-many; June 24, Casino Kur-saalgarden Kur-saalgarden Interlaken, Switzerland; Swit-zerland; and on June 26, Musica Theatre, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. THE BAND was organized in the fall of 1975 for the purpose pur-pose of making a goodwill concert tour of Europe in the Bicentennial year of 1976. That tour was sponsored by the American Youth Symphony and Chorus organization or-ganization with Gregg I. Hanson as conductor. During that tour the performing members requested the band be continued. A board of directors was organized and Mr. Hanson continued as director. There are high standards of musical ability and personal conduct to become and main-tain main-tain membership in the organization. or-ganization. The minimum age limit is 15, there is no upper age limit. DURING THE 1976-77 year, the band participated in the Western Regional Convention of the Music Educators National Na-tional Conference. They also gave concerts in Salt Lake City and Ogden. They made a concert tour with performances perfor-mances at Bryce, Zion's and Grand Canyon National Parks. The concert tour of Europe began June 8 and they will return to Utah on June 29. THE PURPOSE of the band is the promotion and furtherance of fine music and a supplement experience to the member's school music organizations. Mr. Hanson, band conductor conduc-tor at the University of Utah, is a graduate of the University Univer-sity of Michigan School of Music. He was for seven years conductor of the Davis High School bands which attained national prominence by performing per-forming for national MENC meetings and touring the country from coast to coast. Mr. Hanson has appeared as guest conductor in Kentucky, Nebraska, California, Nevada and Utah and is an adjudicator adjudica-tor throughout the western United Stales. HE HAS served as regional chairman of UMEA and is presently western division chairman of the National Band Association and member of the board of directors of the American Youth Symphony and Chorus. He is recipient of the superior accomplishment award from the Utah Music Educators Association for 1975-76 and ' the citation of excellence from the National Band Assoc ia- tioa He is also a member of the music faculty of the University of Utah and holds the rank of assistant professor. profes-sor.
