Williams recently retired from the Internal Revenue Service, the federal agency lost a very fair, understanding man whose capability for settling difficult tax disputes set the pattern for future IRS appeals officers. Williams spent 36 years with the IRS most of it resolving major tax disputes involving large corporations, high income taxpayers and large estates. "Some of the major cases required travel to other states and occasionally to overseas locations," said Williams. It was a very satisfying experience to resolve tax problems and put them to bed with finality hopefully to the satisfaction of the taxpayers and their representatives." That Williams was highly qualified for the position retirement required him to relinquish is evident from his background wnh the IRS. He served six years as a Federal Estate Tax Attorney, 20 years as a Senior Appeals Officer, and 10 years as the Associate Chief and Chief of the Administrative Appeals Office. I enjoyed my 36 years with the Internal Revenue Service," Williams added. "I like to work with people and to help them solve their problems. 1 worked with attorneys, accountants and many major firms. It was challenging but the goal was always 36-ye- ar blossoming so far in 1997 to try to resolve the cases on a mutually satisfactory basis with no ax to grind for either the government or the taxpayer."
