Cloth, when soaked in n solution solu-tion of this kind, say of 20 per cent., and allowed to dry, will not burst into a flame when brought into contact with the fire, the simple effect of tlio latter being to cause the cloth to slowly carbonize or I smoldpr. In preparing linen and light muslin garments in this manner the solution solu-tion i3 usually mixed with the starch, and the addition or about 3 per cent, of phosphate phos-phate of soda to the tungstate is also saiJ to he an improvement. Wood can be treated in a similar manner, but it is rather an expensive process when undertaken under-taken 0:1 a considerable scale, and as it does not render the wood really incombustible, incom-bustible, is not important.
