Harper Mr. and Mrs. John and Alta Craner are sure glad to look out their window and see the snow falling. Because this year of the drought brings back memories. When John and Alta Craner were first married and came to West Corinne in 1928, they didnt have culinary water. Several times a day Alta would take her bucket and hike one quarter mile to Hendburgs well for drinking water, and across the ditch carrying it back home. Her washing water she would draw from the canal. Craner said it was quite a treat to go into Corinne with the milk can and fill it with fresh water. But, he added, after it stood in the cans a couple of days it would go bad. Then he reflected, some times the canal water was so full of salt and alkali, the cattle wouldnt hardly were Robert and Karen Smoot, Bill and Carla Smoot, Bishop Norman, Neil, Dianne and Greg Harper, Larry and Nancy Whitaker, Dee and Edna Hardy, Grant and Jean Nelson, and Lloyd and Donna Hubbard. Others to bring their children were Rulon and Donna Smoot, Milton and Ann Norman, Don it. Forsgren and John Craner, negotiated with the Salt Lake owner, a Mr. Snow. It took a year to get the water, Craner said. Hut when he finally got it, we put it in our community in a summer. The money for the water system was borrowed from the governments Farm Home administration. John Craner said, Now every time we have a drink of this good water we think of the old times. As far as drought and water shortage, we might be alright for this year. But next year might be a different story, if we dont get some storms. I think everybody should conserve water. Other than electricity, the best thing that ever happened to the community was getting the water. If truth be known, Craner added. It might even be better than the electricity. by Flo Munson Mr. and Mrs. V.D. Bowcutt have returned from an enjoyable visit with Mr. and Mrs. Burke Gephart and daughter Allyson in South Pasadena.
