Show HOLY ROSARY CHURCH by Father Pellegrino "The Thought of Dealh" Nothing is more uncertain than the moment of death. Jesus Christ says that death will come at an unknown hour, like a thief in the night. Knowing this, what does Christian wisdom say to us in the words of the Sacred Scrip tures. "Happy and prudent is he who, at every moment of his life endeavors to be such as he would desire to be found at his death". If the father of a family knew at what hour the thieves would come, he would watch for that hour, says Jesus Christ, to prevent pre-vent them from entering his house. But becaase he is ignorant ignor-ant of it, he is continually on his guard. So, God has hidden the hour of our death, so that we may watch and pray and be on our guard. We should spend each day as if it were our last. F.ach thought, each w"ord, each action should be so performed as if it were our last. When temptation comes and sin looks inviting, one should always say to himself, him-self, after this the judgment of God will await me. Holy Job of the old testament said "Everyday I expect the moment of my death. Thou wilt call me "Oh Lord" and I shall answer thee." May that be our daily prayer. |
