Show LAND FRAUD SCANDAL PROBE Franklin K. Lane, secretary of the interior has ordered a general investigation of evi- dence that extensive land frauds are being attempted under the new stock raising homestead law. The investigation, which for three weeks has been on in Salt Lake of alleged fraud in the filing of applications for grazing homesteads already has been recorded. That evidence that these frauds extend beyond Utah and may effect every state where lands have been applied for under the grazing home- stead law, is indicated in the Washington dispatches, which say that in addition to Individ- ual informants the Idaho legis- lature has memorialized the secretary of the Interior re- garding land frauds. The evidence as set forth is in reference to the use of dummy entrymen, acting in the interest of cattle and Bbcep men and cattle corporations, to en- able them to take possession of the lands. Secretary Lane will investigate this thoroughly. |
