Show FORMER KAISER AGAIN MARRIED SECRECY AND MYSTERY MAINTAINED MAIN-TAINED AT WEDDING O" - EMPEROR OF DOORN Sister of Bride Passes Self Off As Hermione In Order to Put Public Off Guard; Two Ceremonies Held Doom, Holland. The former German Ger-man emperor, once all-highest of die empire, and Princess Hermione of Reuss were married Sunday at the house of Dorn, where the lord abides in exile. This second venture was in strange contrast with that day in 18S1 when, as crown prince, he wedded Augusta Victoria, daughter of Grand Duke Frederick of Schleswig-Holstein. Several of the offspring of that first union were present to set the seal of family approval to the new alliance. There were two ceremonies, a civil contract drawn up and signed by "Wil-helm "Wil-helm II" and "Hermione Reuss," as they affixed their names ; the second n religious ceremony conducted by the former court chaplain. Dr. Vogel, according ac-cording to the Lutheran rights. The air of secrecy surrounding the entire affair has been well maintained throughout. The climax of the systematic sys-tematic mystification adopted by the Princess Ida, who resembles her, Successfully Suc-cessfully passed herself off as the bride at the Amersfoort station Saturday Sat-urday with an array of castle cars, whereas Princess Hermione left the train at Apeldoorn, half an hour earlier, earl-ier, and drove to the castle unobserved, unobserv-ed, those within the village making much of this as a huge joke. At the religious ceremony, which began be-gan with the singing of the Lutheran hymn, "Jesus Geh Yoran," Pastor Vogel preached from the text, "Now Abideth Faith, Hope and Charity." The bridal couple occupied carved gilt armchairs surmounted by crowns, R'hile the numerous guests were seated seat-ed in rows behind them. "Now the joyful day has arrived," declaimed the minister, "when his majesty and her serene highness join hands." He recalled that the same text had served at the golden wedding of Wil-llan Wil-llan I anifcat the bridgegroom's own silver sil-ver wedding. "The bride," said he; "has left fatherland and friends to unite her life with that of his majesty, whose faith lias sustained him in circumstances cir-cumstances which would have driven others to despair." As an evidence of faith, he pointed out that the "kaiser" conducted religious re-ligious services on"every Lord's day in his home. He paid tribute to the virtues of the late empress and Princess Prin-cess Hermi-one's former husband, referring re-ferring to the "kaiserin" as the ideal of German womanhood. "Love each other as God loves you, he admonished, "and you shall prevail over all evil report." Then followed the reading of the marriage service. Rings were exchanged, ex-changed, and the hymns, "So Nimm Den Meine Haende" and "Harre Mein Seele," were rendered. A brief official communication issued is-sued later announced the civil and religious re-ligious solemnities and mentioned the number of guests as twenty-eight. Prince Henry of Prussia, as senior member of the family, spoke a few cordial words, to which there was no response, according to the German custom, and no further speeches. The day began clear and bright "Hohenzollern weather" but soon turned to showery, and a chilly rain 'ell when the former emperor's motor car drove from the castle to the lodge at the appointed time for the civil seremony. |
