Show We've seen several sudden death football foot-ball games since Region 8 adopted this rule a few short years ago. I have yet to see a sudden death ending end-ing that does not leave a bad taste In my mouth. Worst thing Is that the winner goes home, not quite sure just what he's won. The loser always feels robbed. Except for playoffs, there Is no real advantage to having a win Instead of a tie. In playoffs we don't find It so objectionable. However, we'd as soon flip a coin, or better, use the yards gained measure. But for regular play, sudden death should be tossed out and the tie brought back in all its glory. Teams that cannot decide the master In regulation play, certainly are not going go-ing to prove anything to themselves or the fans In four downs. The Beavers won Friday, Fri-day, but they'd been just as down as the Cowboys had the sudden death seen the Cowboys score on the last play. Both teams played a hard fought game for 48 minutes to 0-0. They both could have went home with pride. But the rules said one had to die. "Red" |
