New models like these for 1978 are averaging $639,000 per unit. Union Pacific Railroad Rail-road has just ordered 100 new locomotives for delivery next year as part of its 1978 equipment acquisition program . The total cost $63.9 million. The 1978 order consists con-sists of 94 locomotives rated at 3000 horsepower each and six new experimental locomotives loco-motives with a rating of 3500 horsepower each. They are scheduled for delivery during first half of next year. The three locomotives pictured above are part of the road's 1977 locomotive program that is adding 90 new units to the company's fleet at a cost of $52.1 million. UPRR Photo |
