Show V r',. j : ' ;" iff- L-k. .... fan r-Wraaa A..-..,: Vernon M. Burns Services Will Be Conducted Thursday For Vernon Burns Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted at 2 p. m. Thursday, May 16, in the Milford Masonic Temple, for Vernon Messer Burns, 71, who died Sunday afternoon in a Nephi rest home of causes incident to age. The public is welcome. Mr. Burns was born Sept. 22, 1896, in Whitehouse, Texas, and after graduating from high school at Mart, Texas, attended attend-ed Rice Institute at Houston. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps, serving during World War I, and after receiving his discharge completed a business course at Galveston, Texas. He came to Milford in 1924 as a general clerk in the master mas-ter mechanic's "office for the Union Pacific, and also was employed as trainmaster's clerk and roadmaster's clerk. He was dispatcher at the Milford Airport when the U. S. Army flaw the mail in the 1920's, and also was a clerk atth'e local post office. He was appointed clerk of the Town of Milford in October, Octo-ber, 1934, and held that position posi-tion through each succeeding Town Board until Milford was made a City, then served as City Recorder until his retirement re-tirement in 1961. He was a member of Milford Post No. 16, The American Legion, Le-gion, and held every office in the post except commander. He was adjutant for many years, and finance officer for more than 10 years. A member of the Masonic Lodge, he affiliated with Albert Pike Lodge No. 14, F & A M, in 1928. He served as worshipful master mas-ter of the lodge in 1937 and 1938, and was treasurer for 22 years. Life Membership was conferred on him in 1953. The services will be under direction of Albert Pike Lodge No. 14, with Milford Post of the American Legion conferring military honors. Friends may call at the Masonic Ma-sonic Temple from noon until time for services. Interment will be in Milford City Cemetery. Ceme-tery. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Ethel Smith, Milford; a brother, Albert Cross, New York, and a niece, living In Amarillo, Texas. |
