Mr. Sorenson, the team coach of the local girls, also praised the leaders and the many volunteers who have donated so much of their time and talent to prepare these girls and others for the Special Olympics. BLQDGETT ' BOUNTIFUL Two Davis County girls will be among three from Utah to compete in the 1989 International Winter Special Olympic Games in Reno, Nev. April 1-8. The Davis County ice skaters Terri Lyn Sorenson and Bonnie Adams have been chosen to represent rep-resent the Beehive State along with a girl from the Cottonwood Heights Rink. Terri, 13, is an eighth grader at, Mueller Park Junior High, and Bonnie, 17, is a junior at Layton High School. Terri has suffered Downs Syndrome since birth and Bonnie has an intellectual disability. disabil-ity. Both are students in the Davis School District Special Education Program. . Both girls qualified for the International Inter-national Special Olympics by virtue vir-tue of winning gold medals at the Utah Special Olympics Winter Games held earlier this year at the Cottonwood Rink. The skaters have been competing compet-ing in local and area tournaments for the past five years. Terri has won four medals two gold, one silver and one bronze, and Bonnie has captured two gold and two silver sil-ver medals. Bonnie is the most advanced skater and will compete in the Level Three Division with a compulsory com-pulsory Figure-8 and a two-minute freestyle routine which must include in-clude 10 of the 12 required moves. Terri will have a forward, backward back-ward and 180-degree turn compulsory compul-sory routine plus a IVi-minute freestyle routine set to music and using seven of the 10 required movements for the Level One Division. Divi-sion. "Bonnie is one of the few skaters around that selects her own musical music-al number and then works with her ; coach to adapt her skating abilities ; to the music," said her mother. "She's a strong competitor with a will to win." Bonnie proved her determination determina-tion to compete a few years ago when she fell on the ice and suffered suf-fered an injured elbow. She was taken immediately to the hospital where she was treated but refused to take medication for the pain. "I didn't want medicine to hamper ham-per my skating ability," she said. "I had Mom take me back to the rink where I finished my routine and earned a silver medal before I would take a shot for the pain."
