Show ri- he Way It Was 84 Years Ago in Davis County Oct. 4, 1904 KAYSVILLE Captain Bur-bidge Bur-bidge of Salt Lake arrested John Lambert here who is charged by McGurrin & Co. of Salt Lake with stealing a bicycle. Lambert was .taken to Salt Lake to face the charge. It is said he had several wheels cashed away. We have been requested by a prominent citizen of Bountiful to take up the subject of imigration of young men... It is ill-advised for so many of our citizens to feel it , necessary to leave such an ideal place as Davis County to go into the uncertainties of new localities ...Why is it that we are called upon to sacrifice our farm and industrial " work to build up other localities nor half so replete with natural resources re-sources as Davis County? There is not an acre of the county in cultivation but what, under intelligent intel-ligent farming, is capable of much increased profit... We make this appeal to you! Don't leave the farm; don't leave the county. 52 Years Ago in Davis County Oct. 8, 1936 In less than three years after the telephone exchange was opened in Bountiful, Mr. Angus Smedley was employed as official collector and solicitor, serving in that capacity under the management of William Doxey and N.G. Smith. In the fall of 1910 he was given the management of the Bountiful exchange, when in the spring of 1913 he was made group manager of the three exchanges in Davis County, remaining in this capacity until his retirement which occurred Oct. 1, 1936. The first switchboard was replaced re-placed by the latest magneto type in 1929 at the time the exchange, was moved from the Clipper office to the new quarters north on Main Street. |
