Show Gunnison Road Project Approved By Secretary The highway through Gunnison and to the Sevier county line, according to dispatches from Washington, has been approved by I Ienry C. Wallace, secretary of the United States department of agr;-cullure. agr;-cullure. This project is included in the approval of 1430 miles - highway in, Utah, and is contained in a letter sent to Howard Mea...; as chief engineer of the Utah state road commission, from the department de-partment at Washington. Of the eleven projects upon which action was taken by tl . government and to which federal aid will be given, the road from Nephi via Salina is designated as project nine and no doubht includes the Ft. Green, Moroni, Gunnison-Axtell, Redmond, Salina and the Richfield roads. With this program approved and the indications pointing to the establishing of a through route via the Sevier-Cove Fort road, indicates in-dicates that Sanpete and Sevier counties are yet to come in for some recognition as the most plausible route for travel to the scenic wonders won-ders of Southern Utah. The Sevier-Cove Fort route, which has been approved, is a forest route and is at present the most southerly connection in Utah between the Grand Canyon and the Zion national nation-al park highways. Information from headquarters at Salt Lake is to the effect that steps will be taken at once to line up the program for building the road through this city to the Sevier county line. Advertising for bids will soon be started and it is understood that the machinery will be put in motion and kept working with all possible speed until the road is complete. Promises have been made to avert any delay de-lay on this project through the city and south. The experiences had during the past few years, more especially since the establish- ment of the sugar factory in the valley, with a sea of mud, greatly interfering with both overland travel and the transportation of far..i products, the citizens of the valley will welcome the announcement that work is to soon start on the project. |
