Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 6 Volume IX Issue III November 15, 2003 Announcements Missionaries Anniversaries Elder Isaac Garr Pantone Elder Isaac Garr Pantone has been called to serve in the Russia Samara Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He entered the Mission Training Center on October 29, 2003. He is the son of Mark and Lisa Pantone of Huntsville. Returning Missionaries Elder Ryan Starks has returned home after having served in the Quito Ecuador Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ryan is the son of Steven and Debbie Starks of Eden. He will speak in the Wolf Creek Ward, 2900 N. Hwy 162, Eden, on November 23, 2003, at 2:45 p.m. Norma and Vernon Shaw Thomas Angus Ferguson J. T. Cassity Vernon J. and Norma Allred Shaw celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on a cruise to the Panama Canal with friends. They were married on October 24, 1943. Their vows were later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was born August 10, 1925, in Liberty. She was born October 5, 1924, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her family then moved to Liberty where she met her husband. They are active in their ward and have served in many positions. They were farmers in Liberty and then in Morgan. They cutter raced, and trained and raced quarter horses for many years. For the past 13 years, they have spent their winters in St. George golfing and traveling in their motor home. They now reside in Roy where they spend time with their children and grandchildren. Their children and their spouses are Kathryn and Doug Seamons, Ogden; Jeff and RoseAnn Shaw, Bountiful; Pat Hodgson, Ogden; Pam and John Atwood, Morgan; and Brad and Cindy Shaw, Morgan. They have 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. SUNSET - Thomas Angus Ferguson, 76, died Sunday, October 26, 2003 in Salt Lake City. Thomas was born on June 14, 1927 (Flag Day) to Lewis Ferguson and Marie I. (Daxon) Ferguson in Lexington, Nebraska. His earliest years were lived in Cozad and Gothenburg, Nebraska, and most of his school years in Norfolk, Nebraska, through the eleventh grade. He moved to Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1945. Thomas was drafted soon after high school and served for seven years in the U.S. Army. During his service, he was stationed at Camp Roberts, California; Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Camp Polk, Louisiana; Batista Field, Cuba, and British Guyana. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Thomas went to Utah State University and graduated in 1957 with a civil engineering degree. He moved to Southern California upon graduation and worked for several years with the City of Los Angeles Department of Building Safety. He then worked for and retired from the Federal Aviation Agency. With the FAA, he worked on projects in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco, Phoenix, and John Day, Oregon. The projects he most relished were building airport control towers. Thomas moved back to the Ogden Valley seven years ago to live his remaining years close to the families of his brother, Lloyd Ferguson, and his sister, Isabel (“Bea”) Whittemore. Cremation under the direction of Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Camp Williams Cemetery, Veteran’s Memorial Garden. Cassity, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003. He was born in Provo, Utah, on March 16, 1917, the son of Lawrence J. and Madge Thatcher Cassity. In his youth he spent much time riding horses, hunting, and fishing. His family later moved to Ogden where he graduated from Ogden High School. In 1937, J. T. married Phyllis Wilson in Salt Lake City. They solemnized their marriage in the Ogden Temple in 1976. In their sixty-four years together, they met and overcame many great challenges, and experienced much happiness and joy. Phyllis passed away on December 6, 2001. During the second World War, J. T. served in the armed forces with assignments in the Phillippines and Japan. He worked many years in the grocery business, owned the original Green Spot Drug Center in Ogden, managed the drug center in the Wangsgards shopping center, and later owned the Mini Mart convenience stores. He retired in 1979. J. T. loved the outdoors. An avid fisherman, he spent many happy hours trolling his favorite fishing holes at Flaming Gorge Reservoir and fly fishing on the Green River. In his later years, his favorite pastimes included working in his shop and on his motor home and boat. He developed a great love for people, and endeavored to serve them when opportunities arose. The love and respect he showed to others were returned in kind, and he will be deeply missed. J. T. is survived by his children: Jerry (Elaine) Cassity, of Ogden; Bill (Jeri) Cassity of Liberty; Lee (Diane) Cassity of Pleasant View; and Jim (Sherri) Cassity of Layton; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas J. Cassity of South Ogden; and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Michael Woolman and the staffs of the Apple Village Assisted Living facility and the Crestwood Care Center for the loving care given to J. T. Private services for close friends and family were held November 5, at the Larkin & Sons Mortuary, Ogden. Interment, Washington Heights Memorial Park. Birthdays Bybee Lucille W. Bybee recently celebrated her 80th birthday. She was honored at a family dinner on November 8 at the Maddox Ranch House. She was also honored at a family gathering on November 8 at the Banquet Room of the Old School Body Shop. She was born October 11, 1923, in Liberty, to Alfred Willard and Edith Lenora McLaughlin. She attended Ogden High School. She married Adelbert Loftus on November 11, 1940, in Ogden. Her main career and focus in life was raising her four children. She worked at K-Mart retiring in 1982. Her interests have included making star Obituaries quilts, which she shared with many family members and friends; her family; participating in the CLUB, a group of friends that have been getting together every month for about 50 years; spending winters in Littlefield, Arizona; working in the Ogden LDS Temple; traveling; and attending the Ogden and Arizona temples. After her husband’s death, she met Grant G. Bybee while they were serving in the Ogden LDS Temple. They were married on June 6, 1986, in the Ogden LDS Temple. Her children and their spouses are Pat Loftus, Bruce and Margo Loftus, Plain City; Dean and Linda Loftus, North Ogden; and Keith and Margo Loftus, Clovis, California.
