A communication addressed to the sheriff made a full explanation of the act With the letter the man left letters from his wife, who lives r.t Roanoke. Va.. telling him of her delicate deli-cate condition and financial straits, and urging him to come to her relief as soon as possible, Oldham, in bis letter to the sheriff, says he feels that he is Justified lu taking "French leave" from the eouut jaH He says he will pay every dollar he owes in ibis section'' i Oldham was serving a six months' sentence for obtaining money under raise pretenses, about one-half the tJme having expired. It was made known in the municipal court that Oldham presented Cashier Hong of the Ctah National bank of this cltv with a sight draft on an Insurance company at Moscow, Idaho, for whom he was working, slating that the company com-pany would honor it. The money was advanced on the draft and it was forwarded for-warded to Moscow for settlement, but Mr. Hoag was advised thst Oldham ' had no authority to draw on the company com-pany and that they would not honor the paper, Oldham was arresle-d ana convicted. He stated however, tbar the companv had authorized him to draw on them, and that when 1hey refused re-fused the payment of the draft tbev were simply turning him down without with-out provocation. Oldham was associated asso-ciated with F. S. Larson under the firm name ot Oldham & Larson in the fire insurance business. Oldham's escape from jail is looked upon by nearly all who are familiar with the circumstances of the ease, and acquainted with him. as justifiable, justifi-able, and it Is certain that no effort will be made to apprehend him and bring him back.
