M The annual "Charity" ball given un- M dor the auspices of the Martha society H last Wednesday evening was the most H carefully planned and magnificently H opened of all the functions given un- H der the direction of that organization M of capable ladies. The New Colonial was draped with hundreds of beauti- fl ful U. S. flags which, together with H the artistic and brilliant lighting, prc- H scntcd a striking picture. H The decorating committee under the leadership of Mrs Elwood Mntson H and Mrs. Joseph Scowcroft arranged M the large- auditorium and reception M parlors In a most attractive manner H and Mrs. A. S. Condon and Mrs. H Nettlo Ecclcs planned the refresh- H menta and refreshment parlors in a H way leaving nothing more to be de- H elred. Punch was served by the H Weber club, whose men are so well H I skilled In serving. H ' In the receiving lino wero the thirty Indies of the Martha society who M gTaclously welcomed each of the M guests, H The grand march was led by Mrs. M H. C. Bigolow and Colonel Kessler, H of the governor's Btaff, the governor H being unable to bo present to lead H in the opening of Ogden's yearly so- H cial event. H The ladies In beautiful gowns, espe- M cially designed for the occasion, and H men in full evening dress, presented H a brilliant picture. Mrs. H. C. Blg- H elow In an elegant black real Duch- H esse laco gown over white satin and M -wearing beautiful diamonds, with Col. M Kessler in full uniform wero fitting M leaders for the long list of handsome- M ly dressed participants in the grand m march, many remarking that the H grand march alone was well worth H the price of a ticket. H The sudden closing of the ball ow- H ing to the Eccles Are and the serious Hj injury to Mr. and Mrs. Barton, who H were among the guests were regret- H table features of the -otherwise happy, B auspicious occasion that gave promise M of bolng the most pronounced social H success in Ogden's history B A bevy of charming young ladles, W -who assisted in serving, received com- H plimentary and appreciative mention. H MARTHA SOCIETY. H The ladies of the Martha society HL met Saturday afternoon with Mrs. 1 H. C, Bigelow, at her apartments in H the Reed Hotel, when minutes of the H last meeting were read and reports M from the various committees were H submitted, chlof among which were the Hj "Charity" ball committee reports A HL larger number of tickets were sold H this year than ever bcfoie and the M ' ladles met with even greater encour- H agement in their work than last year M when they expressed deoply grateful Hl appreciation to such a host of patrons Hj and willing helpers 1 Each of the Martha society ladles H purchases a ticket and contributes H also one dollar each toward the re- H freshments besides giving her time H and untiring labor to insure the suc- H cess of the big annual event. Over H $1,000 was the net result of the Char- H: lty ball of the fifteenth, every penny Hl of which will he carefully expended, H together with other society funds and H their own personal contributions, for V the poor or distressed in Ogden. H A goodly number who helped the H ladles in making the ball a success M received especial mention and an of M flclal note of thanks from the organ- H izntion. No creed or organization is H known in their benefactions. Only H the needs of the poor or othorwiso H distressed need he made known in H order to receive immediate attention H and relief. H Refreshments were served during l the social hour, the club adjourning 1 to meet with Mrs. Ambrose P. Hibbs H at Utah Hot Springs sanitarium, Mon- H day afternoon, Nov. 27. H 500 CLUE. H Mr. P. Healy was hostess to the H 500 Club Thursday afternoon, nearly M all of the club ladles being present. H Mrs. A. W. Walker von the Bouvenir M spoon and Mrs. Ambrose P. Hibbs the fl cut prize. H Following the card games refresh- H menta were served and (he usual H pleasant social hour known enjoyed. H The club adjourned to meet Thursday H! Kovevcmber 23, with Mrs. H. C. Hl WEBB-JOESTEN. 1 A pretty . wedding was solemnized H by Father Ryan at SL Joseph's church H last Wednesday morning when Miss H Dorothy Webb, graduate of Ogden H High class of 1910 and daughter of H Mr. and Mrs. Charles Webb, 2630 Jef- H ' ferson avenue, and Frank W. Jocston, H clerk in the Railway Mail service on H the Overland, were united In marriage. M The bride wore a handsome blue vel- H vet traveling suit and the groom the 1 conventional black. They were ac- H companlod by Mi6s Lola Slater, nieec M of Dr. and Mrs. A. S. Condon, as H bridesmaid, and James J. Gorman of San Francisco as best man. Im-' M mediately after the nuptial ceremony the happy couple left for Salt Lake H where they will visit for a few days M and later will be at home to their H friends in California where Mr. Joes- Hl, ten will make his headquarters. Hli The bride is a popular young mom- H' ber of her social set and numbers H , among her acquaintances a host of Hi high-school graduates and other H friends. The groom is equally pop- ' ular in mail circles and was chosen as delegate from the division to the National Convention of the Railway Mall association, being prominently Identified with the faction which has the backing of Sen. The Harvest Home service at the Baptist church was a decided success because of the large number. who responded to tho call of the pastor, superintendent and teachers to bring vegetables and fruits to add to tho collection to be given as a Thanksgiving Thanks-giving gift to the Crlttenton home. The "offering was a liberal one and many helpful suggestions were made by the several spoakors. SEGO LILY THIMBLE CLUB. Mrs. W. P.
