Show ALL THE NEWS OF FILLMORE Whit ; (be Editor bu Corralled in bli Weekly Road -op of the Twi Road Commissioner Dennett has been doing some good work on the roads around Fillmore the past month. The road to the south towards Kanosh Is being put in good shape and about 15 miles of the road from Fillmore to llolden and then Oasis Is being graded up so that the water will run off In wet weather. We notice that some of those Interested In the transcontinental transcontinen-tal automobile route state that the road from Juab through Sclplo, llolden, llol-den, Fillmore and Kanosh Is In excellent ex-cellent condition, but from Kanosh to Mllford there are a good many rough places where lava rock makes travelling travel-ling hard. Wouldn't It be a good thing to have this piece of road fixed up? Automobile travel Is worth working for. Such travelers are good spenders and It would be a good thing for Fillmore Fill-more to give every encouragement to such travel. Mr. Ilennett says there will be about 110,000 available for county roads this year, a good portion of which Is contributed con-tributed by the state. The state appropriation ap-propriation Is mostly for county roads which the county Is expected to keep In repair hereafter. The work being done by Mr. Dennett Is of a permanent character, so that hereafter a road drag will be about all that is needed to keep the roads In good condition. Some enterprising man or company should make the hot spring he-i he-i tween Fillmore and Meadow access-iahle access-iahle and attractive. We believe they i might be made an attraction for travcl-1 travcl-1 era and a pleasant resort for the peo-; peo-; pie of this section. The, editor got lost In hi first attempt to find them. If bathing facilities were provided ami the surroundings improved It would (attract many people. The spring are ! certainly unique, tile bathing as fine j a could be found anywhere. Make the : most of your natural advantages. It Is to be hoped that some steps will be taken this winter to abate the squirrel nuisance that . has proved 'so destructive the past season. The ! commissioners seem reluctant to offer a bounty as they fear It would bankrupt bank-rupt the county. Dul how would It be to offer It for about two months early In the season as soon a the rodents come out? llefore they begin breeding is the time to begin work, as one animal ani-mal killed then Is worth two or three later In the season. Then let all the farmers unite in the work of destruction destruc-tion at the same time and they will accomplish something. A ;ood many believe that the bounty boun-ty on coyotes Is a protection to the i sheep men at the expense of the larm-er, larm-er, a the coyotes greatly help in keeping keep-ing down the squirrels and rabbits. It seem n IT any disturbance of the natural ratio of wild animal life works Injury to man. Kill off the hawk and bird to protect your poultry, poul-try, fruit and grain and Insect pest multiply and do more damage to these crops. Kill off coyotes to protect sheep and small animal pest multiply and the farmers grain suffers. We do not know what injury follows killing off these little pest, hut It can't be as great as they Inlltct. We think each county should be left free to decide what bounties or taxes it should levy, but to fix a uniform uni-form rate on bounty all over the state does not proportion the burden or benefits equally. We should have lo-ciil lo-ciil option in taxation, as In other J thing. A large number of Fillmore people attended conference and the fair at Salt Lake, and report a fine time. The usual conference storms came a few days before and after the gathering so as not to Interefere with the gathering. gath-ering. Tlie recent storms have done some damage to late hay and seed crops, hut most of thb farmers gt their crops in belore the storms. Dan Kelly ha got hi new gasoline engine Installed and can now turn out a splendid grade of sausage and chop-H-d meat with a less expenditure of labor. Mr. Kelly carries a fine line of meats. Juicy and tender, and gives prompt attention to orders from neighboring neigh-boring town. A petition has been going the round In the Interest of Clear like asking that the mail route be not changed to Oasis or lMta. In view of the many conflicting petitions that have gone in It Is doubtful If any change will be made In the near fu turt. The people must unite upon one route If they want a change. |
