On Memorial day took place the ceremony cer-emony of blessing the new bell which has just been placed in the belfry of St. Lawrence's Church of Centerville and Walkerville. The bell was purchased pur-chased by Father Batens recently at Baltimore, and is one of the heaviest and 1pindsomest bells in the state of Montt'ia. The complete weight, with j mountings, is 2,000 pounds. The bell when rung will undoubtedly be heard I all over Butte and will be a decided i credit ,to the prosperous St. Lawrence parish. The bell was blessed at 10:30 o'clock, followed by a solemn high mass. The choir of St. Lawrence's Church, under the direction of Miss Kate Ronan, rendered ren-dered excellent music, and Father O'Brien delivered the sermon. Several priests of the Helena diocese were in attendance.. It is a custom of the Catholic Cath-olic Church to have a number of sponsors spon-sors at the dedication of a new bell. A number of prominent citizens of Butte and YValkerville acted in this capacity. Among them were Mayor McCarthy of Butte, Mayor.-Murray of YValkerville, Sheriff Regan and others. |
