Show KliLHCTHl). A KKIMIKHKNTATIVK J11SK. AnioiiR tlio many good uiinca of Southern Nevada is that of the I'ioche Silver Mining Company, situated in Ely district. It is one of the few there whoso .shafts, galleries and underground under-ground workings are not entirely closed to tho puhlic, and we aro therforo enabled en-abled to givo the following accurate description de-scription of its present condition, fur nUhed by a mining friend of ours who has recently examined it. it ha. already been explored to a perpendicular perpendicu-lar depth of 200 feet a shaft for main working purposes having been commenced com-menced upon tho upper side of the ledge, which it penetrated at a depth of sixty feet, and was found to be about live feet thick, aud the ore singularly free i'rom tho baser metals so peculiar to that locality, and of extraordinary richness. At this point upon the Icde, galleries have been run each way along the course of the vein, stuping stup-ing has commenced, aud the workmen are now extracting large quantities quanti-ties of ore therefrom. Continuing Continu-ing with tho vertical shaft to the depth of loU fect from the surface, a drift seventy-two feet in length reached the vein at that point, where it was found of equal size and richness as ahove, and had been drifted upon SO feet in an easterly direction, and 30 feet in a westerly, at the time of our informant's visit ; aud, as tho main shaft was yet 50 leet below be-low this level, a winze had been sunk at the end of this west drift upon the vein to the level of the bottom of the shal't, which workmen are now tunneling tunnel-ing to connect. These explorations have disclosed a wonderfully faultless vein, scarcely varying from its uniformity uniform-ity of five feet in width, and taken as an entirety, is believed will work the sum of $50 per ton. The company has recently leased the Chicago mill, to which they are now shipping the ore, and will commence reducing it the present week. Meantime a Stetefeldt furnace has been contracted for to be completed in sixty days. The whole of this magnificent property is now under un-der the superintendence of Lew llan-cbett llan-cbett ; and although active operations have been but a short time under progress, his management will soon render it not only dividend-paying, but one of the most profitable mining properties prop-erties of our State. The company's office is at San Francisco. The officers are : Trustees, A. II. Rutherford, George W. Rutherford, Alvinza Ilay-ward, Ilay-ward, C. N. Felton ; President, J. JJ. Frey ; Secretary, Chas. K. Elliott. There are 20,000 shares of stock. White Pine A'eics. |
