Show CORRESPONDENCE. Salt Lake Citv, Feb. "A. l-ri. Editors Herald. "Taken at a dktance." Such oeems to be the case in reference refer-ence to the cen.-us taken by General Maxwell. Oae school district of sixty . families, was not graced or disgraced by the presence of one of the suckers of Lncie Samuel's pap. I am heartily heart-ily glad that our liberal Government has made the appropriation of fire dollars p:-r diem fur the gentlemen in their arduous responsibilities of taking the census cf Utah by guess. : I would suggest that every loyal eiti- j zen and tax-payer of thU Territory appeal to the Government at Washington Wash-ington for responsible, upright men, residents in-tead of non-re:idents, fjr our public officials. I am a pioneer; have been here for over twenty-two years; have aided in quelling Indian difficulties; have carried mails; and have labored with thousands of others to make this once bairenland fertile and habicable, without a cent of remuneration re-muneration from our Government. For this I did not labor; but I was prompted by the hope that I would reap the desired privilege of living in peace and enjoying the liberties guar-rameed guar-rameed by the Constitution. I have spent half my days in building myself a home, and by the help of God I have succeeded. I intend to live here and enjoy it, independent of any ''ring." clique, er dishonorable men who would rob me of my rights, as an American citizen. More anon. i'ours respectfully, Win. G. Young. |
