Miss Nellie Tulley of Silverton will take her seat as Treasurer of San Juan county the first week in January, and will enjoy the distinction of being one of the women in the United States that have acted as custodians of county funds. She was elected on the Democratic Demo-cratic ticket at the last election by r-large r-large majority over her opponent, who was a man. She was then acting as assistant postmaster at Silverton, a position po-sition she has filled with credit for sev- j eral years. j Miss Tulley has been visiting . her I brother. Thomas H. Tulley, Govemor Thomas' secretary, in Denver, for a .week past, but left on Tuesday to spend a month with her parents at North Tonawanda, N. Y., her former I home. She is an exceptionally capable young woman, and is bright and energetic. ener-getic. Her election is regarded as a personal triumph. The people of San Juan county are confident that the office of county treasurer will be ably managed in the-hands the-hands of the fair official. She will be required to furnish a bond of $75,000 fpr the faithful performance of her duties. |
