Show MILFORD IS BEST PLACE FOR YOU TO TRADE PRICES TELL THE TALE 0 Retail prices of groceries in Mil Cord are as low as in I.os Angeles and in many instances considerably lower. Recently we received a catalog from a produce house at Colton, California, which prepays the freight on orders of groceries to outside customers. "We examined the prices and then went to the Jeil'crson Mercantile Company of Milford $ and asked for quotations on the same brands of goods in the same quantities. We will admit that we were surprised to find that not even in a single instance was the 'price of the Colton house, which regular- 3- ly solicits business here and which has in the past secured consider- 3 able business from settlers from California, lower than the price quoted by the local merchants. One of the most astonishing features of the investigation is the fact that the prices quoted by the Colton house upon almonds, walnuts and California canned fruits was as high or higher than the merchants of Milford charge right here for the same goods. For instance, the first grade of canned peaches is quoted by the Colton house at 95 cents for three cans, at Milford. The local merchants sell the same goods at 75 cents for the same quantity. ' j AYhile in Los Angeles last week we made particular inquiry as to the retail price of potatoes. We found no place in Los Angeles city where potatoes are selling at retail for less than $3.10 per hundred. In many instances they were quoted at $3.25. Baled alfalfa is selling in Los Angeles at $30 per ton. It costs a great deal to live anywhere these days, hut we are fort- unate in Milford to be able to buy our groceries at the same or better prices than the same goods retail for in the large city markets. One reason for tliis is the fact tliat the goods shipped here are bought in sufficient quantity by the local merchants to permit of giving the same price or better than is obtained by the retailers of the cities. We have since taken the time to compare thePlocal prices with Salt Lake City mail order grocery firms and find that with the freight added to the Salt Lake prices the local merchants sell as low as the Salt Lake City firms. Another thing, dear reader, the Colton dealer and the Salt Lake City house demand the cash IX ADVANCE, freight and all. The local merchant is pleased to have the cash when you re- ceive the goods and often allows thirty days and oftener more, if your credit is good. Tit telling the Colton and Salt Lake City dealer to "charge it." ' Still another advantage of trading at home: You have the privilege of seeing exactly what you are buying and you make your local merchant "take it back" if it fails to come up to standard. The local merchants help to pay the taxes that pay for public ed- ucation of your children, for road work, for a thousand and one tilings for your home community. Did you ever hear of passing by a local merchant when there Avas a .donation wanted for something in the community? Again, did you ever hear of a Colton or Salt Luke City merchant handing over any real money for Milford improvements or Milford community enterprises? At this Christmas season is an excellent time to start to spend all your funds that you have to spend for supplies or Christmas pres- ents with your local dealers. It always pays in the long run, and nearly always in the short run, too. |
