In 1916, the department de-partment bought a larger Buick fire truck that was housed in a two-story two-story building that had been the Rodgers Plumbing Shop located on Main Street between 100 and 200 North, on the east side of the street. As the fire department expanded, ex-panded, it was moved to its present location at 65 W. 200 South in 1956 30 years ago! From the beginning until July 1, 1967, all firemen were volunteers. But in 1967 the Bountiful City Council authorized the hiring of the department's first full-time firemen, fire-men, and it became a dual full-time, full-time, part-time department. The current fire department roster ros-ter now includes 1 1 full-time and 33 part-time personnel all fully trained in fire-fighting, emergency medical assistance, and in search and rescue operations. But most dramatic has been the expansion of the department's equipment from the hand-pulled carts to include a 2,000-gaIlons-per-minute pumper and a 2,000 gpm tanker; also a 1,250 gpm pumper. pum-per. An aerial ladder (reaching 80 feet) and pumping 1 ,250 gpm is also used for taller buildings and hard-to-reach places. Also available are smaller pumper pum-per and tanker trucks; a couple of jeeps for off-highway use; a rescue van; and two ambulances. All of these pieces of equipment including the original hand-pulled hand-pulled cart and many displays will be open to the public through the entire month of August.
