Show Democrats Make Sweep Of State Offices To Regain Control County, State Favor FDR; Thomas, Dworshak Win; Clark Defeats Bottolfsen Bottolfsen, Whitehead, and Z. Reed Millar Get Majority In County Idaho State Democrats made a clean sweep of the state offices and county Democrats captured seven of the twelve county offices voted on to once again regain control of liolitics in Idaho. The parade for Idaho offices was Chas A. Clark of Idaho Falls who defeated the incumbent Republican Re-publican C. A. Bottolfsen, by the narrow margin of around 3,000 votes. In the national election Idaho favored fa-vored President Franklin D. Roosevelt Roose-velt for a third term by giving him 55 per cent of their total popular vote The only two Republicans to pile up majorities w.ere John Thomas, who was re-elected to finish the unexpired two years of the late William E Borah and Henry Dworshak, reelected as Congressman Con-gressman from the Second Congressional Con-gressional district. Thomas piled up a 14,000 lead over Glen Taylor, popular Democratic Demo-cratic candidate who surprised the experts by winning the Democratic nomination over two experienced politicians Dworshak defeated Ira H. Masters, former Secretary of State, by a majority of of 8,000. In winning his third term as President of the United States, Roosevelt won in 39 states, giving him a total electoral vote of 468 while Willkie won in nine states giving him a total electoral vote of 63. Former Lieutenant Governor Charles C. Gossctt (D) defeated the incumbent Donald S. Whitehead White-head (It) by 12,000 votes and Bert H. Miller, (D) attorney-general in 1933-36, won that position again by defeating Z. Reed Millar (R), by over 20,000 votes Secretary of State George H Curtis (D), was reelected to that post by defeating James Keating (R), by a margin of 21,000 votes. Calvin E. Wright, (Democrat in-cambent) in-cambent) won the l ost of State Auditor by defeating Thomas E. Rodgcrs, by around 20,000 votes as did Mrs. Myrile P. Enking, (Democrat (Demo-crat incumbent) who defeated Lela D. Painter for state treasurer. The other two Dr:nocrats to win out were C. E Roberts who defeat, cd Mrs . Myrtle Dr.vis-Wicks by 21,000 votes and Arthur Campbell (D), who dpfo.ilrd Stewart. Campbell Camp-bell (R), by nearly 25,000. Heath Reelected By Small Margin; Lee Hansen Defeats Head In Close Race Franklin county Democrats recaptured re-captured the majority of the county offices at the election Tuesday but only after one of the most torrid tor-rid political campaigns ever waged and the heaviest balloting ever cart here". -. i Several, close battles were fought and the majority of offices was not decided until the last precincts pre-cincts were reported. Like the state and nation, Franklin Frank-lin icounty favored the re-election of Franklin D. Roosevelt for a third term by giving him a total vote of 2158 as compared to Wendell Wen-dell L. Willkie's total of 20G9 The county however disagreed with the state's returns when they favored C. A. Bottolfsen over Chase A Clark for governor. They gave the present governor 2358 as compared to Clark's 1987. In the closest race on the county coun-ty ticket .State Traffic Officer Lee Hansen defeated the incumbent Bill Head by the narrow margin of 116 votes. Hansen's total was 2228 compared to Head's total of 2112. Sheriff Head was seeking his tenth consecutive term having served as sheriff here for the past 18 years In another close race State Republican Re-publican Chairman Thomas Heath nosed out P. J Evans, local attorney attor-ney by the margin of only 121 votes. Heath's total was 2223 as compared to Evans total of 2102.
