Show THE ShERWOOD RECITAL A Mnslca1 Feast at the First Con tvresutiotinl Church The audience at the First Congregational Congrega-tional church last evening was pain fully small painful because it evidenced evi-denced the scarcity of silver dollars but it made up in warmth what it lacked in numbers Mr Sherwoods matchless technique and wonderful interpretation charmed his listeners in every number but perhaps per-haps in no one more than Liszts La Campanella which was played by request His exquisite shading was finely brought out in the opening number num-ber Chopins Sonata In B fat minor After his splendid rendition of Chopins Impromptu In F sharp Op 21 and Duponts Toccata di Concerto Op 36 he bowed his acknowledgment of a storm of applause but was forced to give an encore number which proved to be an amusing wouldbe caricature of Chopins compositions written by Schumann in his youth The Splnnerlied Von Bulows Valze in B flat Op 21 Liszts Liebestraum also his Etude de Concert in D fat and a March from Suite by Raff weie other selections with which this wizard of the piano chained his audience audi-ence He also played a brilliant composition com-position of his own entitled Exhilaration Exhilara-tion and a beautiful composition Gratitude by C F Stayner a local composer of merit A lumber that delighted the audience audi-ence was a Grieg Sonata in C minor Op 45 by Mr Weihe accompanied by Mr Sherwood I was evident that Mr Weihes masterly playing was a source of as much pleasure to Mr Sherwood as to the audience Schumanns Andante and Varia tons Op 46 a duo by Mr Sherwood and Mr Krouse was also one of the gems of the programme Mrs Lizzie Thomas Edwards surpassed sur-passed all her former efforts last even ing No heartier applause was heard during the evening than that evoked by her solo the Jewel Song from Faust She was recalled but merely bowed her acknowledgement of the ap I plause and a handsome tribute A Family Concert The Beesley brothers went to Tooele Thursday evening to assist in a concert cert given there by their father The programme was a varied one including solos duets trios q artettes and an octette Beesleys Tooele band did some good work Alvin Beesley acted as ac companist MniicnlLItcrnry ClnliH A prospectus of the Society of Mu sicalLiterary clubs of which one or more of the local artists Is a member details an Excellent and practical plan for organization In music study and concert giving |
