Show Weber Residents Involved in Events S. .'X ' v X ' v v. v. .y Lakeside Review, July 8, 1981, Page5D ..','X Candidates Sought Events of interest coming up in South Weber include the Davis County Day and the County Fair. The County Day is at Lagoon on July 29. The recreation bus will be making the regular swimming stops starting at 9:30 a.m. There will be swimming for 50 cents, free bingo and watermelon plus a prize drawing and reduced rates on ride passes. County Fair days will start in South Weber with three days of pageants on Aug. 7 through the 10. Also on Aug. 10 there will be a moto-cros- s race. The following night will be Posse Night. Aug. 12 will be family night. Square Dancing and a rodeo will be featured on Aug. 13. . ..The final day will include a chuckwagon breakfast, rgqes, games, booths, a parade, and fireworks. Candidates may register for the pageants by con tacting Janet Peterson before Friday at 6848 S. 475 E. Stevan Tanner, professor of pharmacology ,JJorth Dakota State University, was elected rational faculty president of the National Inter coHegiate Rodeo Association at the National College Uedeo Finals held in Bozeman, Mont. Tanner is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Noall Z. Tanner dCLAyton and received his early education in Layton ajid.at Davis High School. He received his B.S. and Doctorate Degrees from the University of Utah. He has-be- en associated with the North Dakota State University for the past 14 years. IDr. Tanner is married to the former Marilyn Holt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Graydon Holt, of Layton, Mid they are the parents of two sons. ail m - Founder's Day Set July 25 in Syracuse The summer CLEARFIELD reading program is in full swing at the North Branch Library in Gearfield. Forty children are taking part in the program designed to instill a desire for reading. The program was coordinated by Gladys Smith, childrens librarian, north branch; Pete Giacoma, branch librarian, Farmington headquarters; k and Marilyn Getz, childrens librarian at South Branch, Bountiful. first-gejv- According to Mrs. Smith, the name of the group is the Readers Circle. The children read a favorite book during the week and each week a different colored paper of the childs choice is pasted in a quartered circle on a certificate. On the fifth week, a gold seal is placed in the center to designate completion of the reading program. Mrs. Smith said, the children enjoy the program and the certificates mean more to them because they help make them. They arent just handed out to them." A different activity is planned for each week. The first week the children get acquainted with each other and the librarians, as well as learn about the Indian stories and African program. folklore were told the next week. A balloon launch in the fifth week will help to explain how air currents affect balloon launches. Paper airplanes and other aerodynamics will be made and flown to show how important weather is. Before the balloons are filled with helium, each child will fill out a paper with the name of his favorite book, the author, his address and telephone number, the name of the library and the telephone number. Mrs. Smith said the library hopes to receive calls from the places where the balloons land. She said that several years ago one of the balloons landed in Iowa. It will be held Friday and Saturday at North Fork in Eden Valley. Dinner Friday, night and breakfast Saturday morning will be provided by the stake but those desiring to stay into the afternoon on Saturday should provide their own noon meal.
