Utah currently has a small thriving population of mountain goats in Little Cottonwood Canyon, where six goats were transplanted from Washington in 1967. Goats for Mt. Olympus and Mt. Timpanogos will come from both Washington State and Utahs own goat population in Little Cottonwood Canyon. This week, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources personnel are working with the Washington Game Department in an effort to capture 10 Rocky Mountain goats in Washingtons Olympic National Park. A surplus of goats in the national park, where hunting is not allowed, prompted the Washington Game Department and the National Park Service to offer the goats to Utah. Because goats have a need for salt during the summer, blocks of salt for bait have been set out on a trapping site in Little Cottonwood Canyon where goats will be trapped during July. Preparations for trapping the goats using a drop net are now underway. KKQ 23333 i G3d OimiKiraiBSiG Oh,whatateam!
