Introducing all-girls Encore Courtesy photos MARKETING GURUS: On Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 , eight students from Maple Mountain High School competed in various DECA — A Marketing Club — competitive events at Utah Valley University. Allison Fernandez received first place for highest test score in Hospitality Management. Jessika Hilton, Chapter President, received two first place awards—Restaurant and Food Service Individual Role Play Event and highest test score in Restaurant and Food Service. Shirley Luo competed in Accounting Applications, Raquel Jones competed in Apparel and Accessories, Allison Fernandez and Dalian Brindley competed in Hospitality Management Team, Spencer Slease competed in Quick-Serve Restaurant, and Daniel Hanks and Derrick Winn competed in the Travel and Tourism Team event. Congratulations to all these student participants and thanks for their hard work and preparation. DECA students will now look forward to competing on Feb. 25-26, at the DECA State Competition and Conference at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah. The new Encore ensemble group consists of: Ariel Hansen, Terra Dillman, Christina Heywood, Karianne Nelson, Bonnie Miller, Morgan Hansen, Lydia Money, Andi Smiley, Betty Thomas, Raquel Adams and Ashley Davies. Moore speaks to LHS Dragons Michael Haws LHS Kaleb Davis / Ttie Sentinel DECA AT REGION: The DECA Club is a marketing club that competes against other schools in various topics from a quiz bowl on marketing to creating a fictional business. This year Spanish Fork High School had two students, Matt Christiansen and Tyler Gait, place at the region competition. The DECA organization also gives out scholarships to those who do well. Colleges are at the competitions giving out scholarships. Between the two, the students in DECA have a pretty good chance of getting scholarships if they work hard and excel in marketing. These students also do service projects and fundraisers. Last year, students had a fundraiser where all of the proceeds went to a children's hospital.
