The trip came about as a result of Keio University’s ongoing development of some very new electric car technology. wee started in the spring of 2004 when a small arch group out of Keio University contacted the. Utah Salt Flat Racing Associati ion (USFRA) about bri speed runs at the 2004 World of Speed ‘in September on the Bonneville Salt Flats. After a few e-mails, it was suggested they send some representatives over to an event so that they could learn firsthand what was required to run a car at Bonneville. They came over for both the September and October events and learned a lot about the required safety requirements for running on the salt. Since they did not have a driver for their car, they asked Gary to drive it for them in the 2005 salt racing season since he held an unlimited driver’ s license for Bonneville. ca the Wit WT ally asked Gary to come detailed inspection of their pass inspection at the World All agreed and the trip was over to Tokyo ted a entry to assure it would of Speed in September. on for early Apri ril. tion of Tokyo so most of our interface was with those who were limited in their use of the English language. Trains are only stopped at a station for only Gin & minutes for unloading and loading with a lot of pressure to meet the minimum on a continual basis. Railways do not have to worry about crossing dangers as all cars go either under or over the rails without a danger of stalled cars on tracks, etc. The rail platforms by the trains are clean and open for egress on and off the trains without any rails and barriers in the way to slow movement down. There are large bicycle parking We made a trip to 1200-year-old Kyoto for their cherry blossom season mainly to ride on the bullet train that was the ride of the week for a speed freak. We were cruising across the countryside at 180 mph much smoother and quieter than a plane ride ever thought about being. The only movement was the occasional nudge from passing another train going in the opposite direction at the same speed. The rails were banked so that one never felt any side movement from cornering.
