If there is not some grand design that influences what happens to us, then certainly large segments of our lives are dictated by fortuitous events. I bought a set of china for mother and resolved to go home and find a nice girl who could teach me to become a good dancer, and marry her. We boarded a troop ship ini Japan and sailedto: Seattle. It felt good to dock in Seattle and walk down the gangway knowing the confinement of army life and Korea were behind me. I went to Ft. Lewis, Washington and was processed out of fis Amny. Ina day or so I was home. The day afterI arrived home, I went to an [LDS] M. Men & Gleaner Fireside meeting at an Ogden Ward with Bill and Monroe McKay. Both of them had recently returned from LDS missions in South Africa. At the fireside, three girls sang a song. I thought they were just mediocre, but we were introduced to them by a mission companion of Bill’s. When the meeting was over, Bill, Monroe, and I sa into Ogden to do our version of “dragging” main t. Aswe drove along Sea Blvd., we found ar carrying the three girls who sang at the Fireside. During my fifi inal year of law studies, it occurred to me that I might get some practical experience working as a aie for a lawyer in Practice. I approached Glen Fuller who grew up in Eden and who, in his early career as an attorney, represented the Ogden Valley residents in their legal battle to keep a junior high school in the Valley. When I spoke with Glen, he was very interested in offering me part time work, but not as a law clerk. He had just recently filed a claim on a deposit of green uartz rock in Park Valley, Utah and was ue diffroulty getting the stone masons, who were accustomed to workable sandstone and cobble rocks, interested in laying the irregular, brittle quartz. So it was my skill asa hod carrierer that he sought.
