He was born in Park City on October 7, 1925. He was the first of nine children born to George Hamilton and Marvel Wheeler Pope. He worked for the Ogden Union Railway & Depot and the Union Pacific Railroad from age 17 until he retired in 1985. During World War II, he served as water tender 3rd class for four years on the USS Cape Esperance (CVE 88), an aircraft carri- Ruth Carver Ure Gilgen @ Ruth Carver Ure Gilgen of Roy recently celebrated her 90th birthday with her family. was born October 1, 1915 in Chicago, to Dr. Parley James and Florence Whitaker Carver. She was reared in Ogden and graduated from the old Ogden High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree and later a degree in specialized education. She taught school in Circleville and in the Weber County and Ogden City schools. Her years of teaching were not long because she preferred to be at home with her family. She married Bert Ure on January 14, 1949. A year after his death in 1997, they were sealed by proxy in the Ogden LDS Temple. Their children and their spouses are Steven and Colleen Gilland Ure, and Kelly and Anna Lu Gurr Ure. She has 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. After her husband’s death, she met former college friend Paul Gilgen. They were married in 1998. He was the love of her life. The His interests were archery, horses, and camping; and he owned and operated Norm’s Malt Shop in Huntsville for a short time. He married Helen Jeffs Nielson April 30, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple They have three children: Breck and Linda Nielson, Riverside, Calif.; Jamee and Lon Wheelwright, Spring City; and Jodie and Michael Stone, Salt Lake City. They have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
