Show Relief Society Ladies' Paity. Seventy-five members of the Relief Society of the Delta Ward, assembled at the hall last Thursday Thurs-day afternoon, enjoying an extremely ex-tremely delightful program replete re-plete with mirth and jollification. After spending an hour or so sewing, an hour was given over to recitations, musical selections, etc. The ladies divided themselves them-selves into three groupes afterwards after-wards and contested for a gigantic gigan-tic mince pie, the group composing com-posing and writing the best and most appropriate poem in five' minutes to pull down the prize. In this unusual and exciting contest con-test Mrs. F. L. Copening's group came out victorious, and Mrs Ashby's group finished second, being awarded a tiny mince pie for the efforts they had put forth in the contest. Refreshments Refresh-ments consisting of sandwiches, cake and coffee were served and Mrs. Copening and her group of ladies generously shared with the other two groups a portion of the whopper mince pie. The poem as composed which was the pie winner is as follows: May the Relief Society always stand, with an iron rod in its hand; then rally round the president pres-ident for she is firm and true and help her to do the work she sets forth to do. For she will keep you busy and never let you rest, 'til Gabriel sounds his trumpet in the morning morn-ing of the blest. Let Martha lead the chorus, Then Belle will follow the strand Then Bishops Myra slops it down Indeed she does the thing up brown. Tis teachers duty, so I'm told, to feed the hungry and aid the old. Some members come with babes in arms, and others come from off their farms. Some come on time and others late but each is doomed to meet her fate. |
