Show 6 Cutter Assn, names winners lists schedule Jonuory 3. 1974 STANDARD Duchesne, Altamont, Union continue to roll; Tabiona falls again Union, Duchesne and Altamont continued their winning ways last week in region encounters, while Tabiona lost another contest. Union, ranked high in all state polls of schools showed Intermountain Class in Region how to play the game Nine. Milo Whitehead canned 22 points in leading the Cougar attack. Tom Monks with 12 points and Ronnie Fenn with another 13 rounded out the Cougar's triple threat attack. The win keeps Union in a first place tie with Morgan. They meet in two weeks. The next opponent for Union will be the Longhorns of Altamont, and both teams will put their rankings on the line. In a game that drew a great deal of local interest Altamont ran over Tabiona Tiger's 93-6but not before the Tigers threw a scare into the Longhorns in the first quarter which ended for Altamont. Averaging 95 points per game in region play, the highscoring Longhorn's Gary Stringham again led the charge with 29 points followed by Joe Fieldsted with 21. Koch Exploration Company listed two locations in the Cedar Rim field west of Duchesne. Both are for 10,800 foot tests of the Wasatch formation. The second is an extension of the Altamont field, located about five miles north of the city of Altamont. Mapco, Inc., has three new sites registered with the state. Two are extensions of the Altamont field, and one is a development welL The extensions include a 16,400 foot Wasatch test in Sec. 25, T1S, R5W, and a 16,450 foot well to the Wasatch in Sec. 8, T1S, R3W. The development well is scheduled to go to 15,850 feet in Sec. 27, T1S, R4W. Chevron Oil has one new location listed, in Sec. 10, T2S, R1W, in the Bluebell field. It is scheduled as a Wasatch test, to 12,100 feet. It is registered as a Bluebell field extension, and will be located just south of the Roosevelt airport Husky Oil Company, newcomers in drilling activities in the county, listed two locations, both Altamont field extensions. Both are for 12,100 foot wells to the Wasatch formation. One is located in Sec. 33, T2S, R4W, and the other in Sec. 36, T2S, R5W. They are located some three miles apart, northeast of Duchesne. the Drilling activities throughout county have slowed with the colder weather, but new locations being prepared should step up the rotary rig count in the next month or two. Recipe of the Week WINTER QUARTER A 1 Class Begins: January 9 Winter Quarter Ends: March 6 DATE FANS 34 to 3 cups unsifted mmmmmmamammmmmmmmmammmBmmmmmmmmmmm MKfea BUSINESSMEN and 34 teaspoon salt Active Dry Yeast package 34 cup milk 14 cup margarine or butter 1 egg (at room temperature) 1 tablespoon grated orange rind 1 package DROMEDARY Chopped Dates 1 cup sifted confectioners sugar 2 tablespoons orange juice In .mixer bowl thoroughly combine 1 cup flour and next three ingredients. Combine milk and 2 tablespoons margarine in saucepan. Place over low heat until milk is warm. (Margarine does not need to melt.) Gradually add to dry ingredients; beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally. Add egg, 12 tablespoon orange rind and 12 cup flour or enough to make a thick batter. Beat at high speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured board; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover; let rise in warm place, free from drafts, until double in bulk, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, mix dates and remaining orange rind. Punch dough down; roll on a lightly floured board to a h square. Brush with 1 tablespoon margarine, melted; sprinkle with date mixture. Roll up tightly as for jelly roll. Cut into pieces. Make two cuts through each piece, parallel to cut idea to within 1 from bottom. Turn the three pieces to the same aide and apread apart into fan shape. Place on greased baking aheeta about 2 inches apart. Cover; let rise until double in bulk; about 1 hour. Brush with remaining margarine, melted. Bake in preheated moderate oven (375F.) for 20 to 25 minutes, or until done. Remove from baking aheeta to wire racks. While warm, frost with confectioners augar and orange juice blended until mooth. Jradsht. lit , oosevelt, phone 3 722-410- 1 ne-W- Blue-benc- The alarm siren installed last fall atop the Public Safety Building, was bought on a matching fund basis through the Civil Defense program. This air raid siren is used for the fire alarm. Income was increased for the City by the leasing of oil, gas and mineral rights d lots and acreage. This to additional source of revenue resulted in the Citys having money to pay for some of the additioanl facilities and services. The sewer lagoon project was completed with flow meters, chlorination house. The rights-of-wa- y agreements were finalized for the lagoon property. Embankment protection was done thia past spring to further protect the lagoon cells from the rising waters of the Duchesne River, and to dispel the threat of stream pollution. The Culinary water line was extended to the Bluebench (East Bench) area with storage tank, literally paving the way for its development Many new homes have been built here, and two mobile home parks are constructed and in operation. Dormant land has been put to use for City development A local engineering firm was retained to survey the Bluebench area, and to establish streets rights-of-waAn abstract of property ownership is nearing completion of this area, also. This is all being done at the expense of the City general fund. A preliminary survey was also completed for extension of sewer services to Blue Bench. Changes have taken place in the city office also. The large windows have been draped for light and heat control, an air conditioner unit installed; a large seat custom-buil- t for the foyer; new and additional equipment installed; and additional storage shelving and other facilities purchased; and office procedures altered to meet the challenge of rapid growth influx. The City sponsored the opening of an Employment Security office in cooperation with the Duchesne Health Center offices, in whose building the office is established. In carrying out these additional duties and services, the City has employed only a few additional workers. They are Mele vin Dalton, as policeman; Veldon Lefler, part-tim- e policeman; David N. e maintenance man; and Baum, as e office deEvelyn Beshears as puty. The National Farmers' Union Green Thumb workers have been of great help to Duchesne's maintenance. Part-tim- e maintenance help was employed for the park and cemetery also. Duchesnes mark of progress is reflected in the new housing developments, the new businesses, its continual development and projected plans for progress. A new and larger water line was extended from the city main line to the city cemetery, and a new sprinkling system was installed. The lawn was fertilized, new grass planted, headstones straightened, dirt hauled in, fences repaired and new equipment was purchased for the care of the cemetery, including a $1,000 riding mower. A stile was constructed to allow pedestrian access at all times when the entrance gate is closed; the front fence line was changed, and general clean-uand improvements were made. The perpetual care feature of cemetery maintenance was emphasized, and over $6,500 has been placed in trust to the City for this care. p The cemetery records were all returned to the custody of the Duchesne city recorder, after having been in the custody of a community cemetery committee and a sexton. All billings are made from the city office, and all monies deposited and expended by the city council, through its treasury. Improvements at the fairgounds park include renovation of some of the exhibit buildings, purchase of portable bleacher seats, improvement of the livestock barn and corrals, chutes, fence, areas, lighting; improving the rest room facilities, installing a water fountain; extending the water to the livestock exhibit area.
