Show Covering what matters mosfi B4 • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27, 2008 I r Donations provide scholarships for students Lana Hiskey NEBO DISTRICT Matthew Brown Trevor Carter Nebo Education Foundation continues to receive more funds from generous donors to award scholarships. Over $38,000 in scholarships were awarded this spring to students within Nebo School District to assist them in furthering their educational opportunities. Fifty-four scholarships helped pay tuition to schools such as Utah Valley University, Utah State University, Brigham Young University Provo, Brigham Young University Idaho, University of Utah, Snow College, Weber State University, Northwest College of Wyoming, and Southern Utah University. Many scholarships were set up in honor of respected people making a difference in the community like the G. Grant and Genevieve K. Gardner scholarship. Katie Combs, recipient of the Gardner scholarship said, "I will use this scholarship to help me towards my master's degree. I know education is important. Thank you dearly." People can contribute throughout the year to a specific scholarship. In the spring, students can apply through the counseling office. Lindsey Hales, one of this year's recipients of the Katie Combs Jessica Cope PI •*ffi> fcVL Max and Sonoma Creer scholarship, said, "I would like to thank you for your kindness. Because of you, I will be able to accomplish goals I've always dreamed of, I hope one day to be able to help someone the way you have helped me." "The Nebo Education Foundation provides an opportunity for students to obtain financial help. These scholarships were set up by private individuals to help all students regardless of academic achievement." said foundation board member Ken Money. "All students have an opportunity to continue their educational goals." Davis Evans Drama - Britni Gibbs $900 Bob Evans Band and Orchestra - Amber Cole $500 G. Grant and Genevieve K. Gardner - Katie Combs $1,250 Gillman/Jones - Bryce Taylor $500 Elmo Keck Choir - Matthew Brown $500 Jack Leifson Civic Involvement -AshleeJex$800 "Live wEUe" - Wesley Staheli $1,000 Nursing Scholarship - McKenna Money $500 Bonnie Roach - Jessica Cope $600 SF Class of 1957 - Jessica Warr $1,000 Drew Hales $1,000 Britni Gibbs $1,000 Leanna Thompson $ 1,000 each Connie Chappie Swain Community Service - Jessica Warr $750 Lane Henderson, foundation board member, stated "Education is the key to success. It will open many doors and help instill a desire to do something better. Scholarships provided by the Nebo Education Foundation help many students further their dreams." Not only does the Nebo Education Foundation help with non-profit funding of scholarships, but it also raises money to assist in classrooms through the district.
