Show -NEWS- Spanish Fork B8 • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27, 2008 Covering what matters most SF vs. Alta: From DONS • B l long after Wilson's penalty. On fourth and 20, Lewis found his towering tight end Jordunn Mattinson for what appeared to be a first down but it was two feet shy of the marker. Alta took over and executed an option spread attack with precision, resulting in nice cutback runs from their backfield which opened their passing game. Alta scored first with a 23yard strike on an out pattern to take a 7-0 lead with 3:24 in quarter one. The Hawks were threatening again late in the first, but Randolph used excellent closing speed to pick off another ball. He slipped just as he caught it possibly due to the excitement of the open field between himself and the pylons. This big play killed another Hawk drive and gave the Dons some momentum. But it didn't last. Alta drove 80 yards in five plays and capped it off with another TD toss to go "The lack of execution hurt us." - Coach Christensen up 14-0 at the seven-minute mark. After a 23-yard kickoff return by Travis Steel, Spanish chewed up 4:30 on the clock, but a Lewis INT stopped the drive. However, two plays later, it appeared that DB Chase Loftin had returned the favor with a pick of his own. But when he and the intended receiver fell to the turf, it was wrestled away which resulted in a big first down for Alta. The home team then capped the drive off with a TD run to make it 21-0 at the half. Spanish Fork's lone touchdown came in the third when Lewis found Jordunn Mattinson in the corner on a fade route. A size mismatch was noted by the signal caller and Mattinson pulled down the pigskin with ease. This score gave Ihe Dons some breathing room but Alta cut that off with more big plays to make it look like a rout. For the night, Lewis spread the ball around by passing for an unofficial 240 yards with two interceptions. Wilson hauled in seven receptions for 70 yards. "The lack of execution hurt us," said Coach Christensen. "Some penalties, a fumble and a couple missed scoring opportunities could've made a difference in the game. And then the wheels fell off late in the game. We had some good drives against a very good tearti. We made a lot of mistakes but I liked putting our guys up to the test. Now we have a measuring stick to see where we are." Next up, Spanish Fork travels to #1 4A Timpview. The varsity game starts at Narnon Bills / Spanish Fork News 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aue.
