Spanish showed no signs of intimidation during the first quarter of play. After the speedy Trevor Randolph stepped in front of a pass to stave off an early Hawks scoring drive, Breck Lewis and Co. drove 84 yards in nine plays for what seemed to be the opening score of the night. The senior signal caller found Wilson for a 15-yard TD strike but it was negated due to an offensive pass interference call. Alta then held SF on fourth down and the Hawks began to find their swagger. With a spread option attack, they found success with a mixture of run and pass plays which continued for most of the night. The Don defense came out fired up in the second half by forcing their opponent to three-and-out on consecutive possessions. However, throughout the night, the Hawks made big plays and seemed to execute better on both sides of the ball. They handed SF their first loss of the season in a game where the score was more lopsided than the gridiron battle indicated. Final score: Hawks 42, Dons 6 On its second possession, following a turnover, SF's Lewis had to make an intelligent play to keep their drive alive. At the Dons' own I8-yard-line,abotched snap flew over his head and rolled into the endzone, but Lewis, in hot pursuit, quickly retrieved it from the ground and fired within the vicinity of a white jersey to prevent a huge loss. That smart play set up two big pass plays, the first being a big first down to big man Richard Wilson, followed by a 30-yard reception to WR Chase Loftin. Spanish appeared to be in business. But on third down and 15 yards out, SF was forced into fourth and See DONS • B8 Namon Bills / Spanish Fork News SO CLOSE: Spanish Fork's Travis Still goes up for a pass near the endzone, only to have it broken up by Alta's Ryan Lee. SFHS tennis starts season Shaun Peterson STAFF WRITER On Tuesday August 19, 2008 the SFHS Girl's Varsity Tennis team kicked off their season at home with a match against Bingham. In an otherwise disappointing day on the court the doubles team of Rachel and Rebekah Reid came away with the only win for the Lady Dons. The Lady Dons then traveled to Park City on Wed. August 20 to battle the Miners but were unable to come away with a win. Facing two very tough teams early in the season has left the Lady Dons with an 0-2 record. "It's still early in the season and hard to predict who is going to step up," said Coach Dunn. But with players like Alex Argyle and the Reid Duo the Lady Dons look to be a competitive force in a tough region 5. "Reid and Reid play well together and are strong out on the court which gives them a good chance of winning state, we just need to keep them healthy," said Dunn. An injury last season prevented the Reid duo from chasing a state title. With matches against Pleasant Grove and Timpanogos coming next week the Lady Dons will be looking for their first win of the season.
