Show Escalante Chit Chat FAY ALVEY The weather is nice by streaks, the industry is still at a low ebb. Lewis Brown has returned from Farmington, New Mexico so some are in hopes the jobs on the oil will be resumed. The town cleanup project is still in progress, one crew made a cleaning on some last year's English walnuts. Tony Van Hemert has become so weighed down with responsibility trying to keep industry out and scenery intact he forgets to eat breakfast, then wonders why his knees start wobbling before neon. The chicken pox, measles and mumps are still making life miserable for the small fry and it is no picnic for the parents. Roe and Clema Barn- ey and children came from Page to spend the weekend with Jane Woolsey and the Claron Barneys. Deon and Sa-riah Alvey and Faun Mecham went to Panguitch for medical checkups, Jane Woolsey accompanied them on business. The Al Fosters of Tropic were visitors at the Billie Davis home. ' The District Riding Club held their meeting here at the Elementary school with the local President, Robert Llston, in charge. After the business was transacted, pie and ice cream was served, then the crowd went to the High School Gym for dancing. People came (continued inside) ESCALANTE (continued) from the neighboring towns and it was a successful dance. Everyone had hopes of winning the saddle but it went to a fellow from Orem who had been working in the Richfield area. The North ward orchestra consisting mostly of the Bill Griffin family played for the dance. The South ward orchestra played in, Tropic the same night. 1 I The North ward officials took a group of their young folks to Provo for the ball games, it was those who had good attendance records at church. Lorell Munson had to go North for freight anyway so went in time for the game, son Darrell accompanied him. The Sox Spencers have son Kirk here for a long vacation as he put it, he has been employed in Nevada. The Grant Spencer home has been, filled to capacity, they built another house in back for emergencies. Frank and Deloa Savage of Provo came to show off their family, two of each kind, and Grant's daughter' Vicki Davis and small son were here from Coalville. The. Lays, Chester, Ruth and Maggie made it home ok, they brought Lonnie Fullmer also. Ches says Maggie looks good after her winter in. Idaho. The women are working to get their quilts made before the Spring work starts, Geneal Shurtz imported some quilters from Boulder: Renon Peterson, Neta Poulsen and Idonna Haws. Local ladies stitching were Reva Bailey, Faun Mecham and Laretta-Shurtz. In Sacrament meeting "-n-day the North ward listened to Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Thornton and Joan Westergarde; the South to Lenza Wilson, Wallace Roundy and Billie J. Webster, Linda Alvey played a piano solo. The Bryce Valley High school basketball team played the local team here last week, our team have an almost clear record of no wins but they do try hard; the girls from both high schools did lovely marches. Basketball is a popular sport, good training for the boys, why can't they play a game of ball without that horrid noise? |
