Show Region 7 Basketball Tourney Now On - Bryce, Valley Lose Panguitch was popping at the seams starting Thursday afternoon when team mem-hers, students, teachers, fans, and followers of the top eight basketball teams of Utah's Region Seven came to town for th annual Round Robin basketball tourney. The tourney will select the four teams to go upstate for competition in the state tourney. Thursday afternoon started with a couple of mild upsets as two third-place teams downed first placers from other parts of the region. Richfield defeated Gunnison 73-77 in the first game. North San Pete downed Valley 58 to 38. The evening session started out with Manti and Emery going all out in a nip and tuck cliff-hanger. Regular play ended a 64-all tied. Overtime was tied 68-68 with two seconds to go when David Childs of Emery dropped one through to win for the Spartans 70 to 68. The nightcap saw Bryce Valley go against highly-regarded South Sevier. There was no holding big Parsons and company and South Sevier won going away 80 to 45. |
