Show m EBTION If the Candidates Don't Suit the Governor Gover-nor of New Jersey Ee Has Power to Beject. THESE IS DEEP INDIGNATION. Contesting a Big Land Suit-Claiming Title to an Estate Worth Millions Mil-lions of Dollars. TitKNTox, X. J., Juno 27. Special. 1 Governor Abbott today, in accordance accord-ance with tho provisions of tho new election law, received the nominations for county boards of registration made by the republicans and democrats. He has approved of tho list submitted by both parties. The governor has the right to reject any nomination ho may consider unlit, but it is not supposed that ho will frequently exercise this prerogative. Tho now election law, winch is rather cumbersome, will have its first trial at the charter electioiUo be held in Newark next October. , 'lw law directs that each year, not later than June 27, the chairman of each state committee shall name two nominees nomi-nees of his party iu each county, and that these shall form the boards of registration. reg-istration. AVIum tho board iu each county is organized the chairman of the county committees will each nominate two officers for each precinct, and the election, from registration to balloliug. will bo conducted by these district officers. The detail of the balloting bal-loting is upon the Australian plan, excepting ex-cepting that there may be a distribution of official ballots before tho election day. The precinct officers appointed this time must be men of more than average intelligence,' for it will be a difficult task to rightly start tho complicated- machinery of-this new law. The task of registration will be a heavy one, for it has'been a neglected department depart-ment of the election system heretofore. There has been no registration in the country districts whatever, and it is apprehended that there tho new law will cause some difficulty. |
