C Ready To Start Car Parking Campaign The TIle committee appointed by the Chamber of or Commerce to do something something something some some- thing to relieve the parking situation situation situa situa- situation tion on Main Street has made a 1 preliminary survey of or the matteer and are now read ready to start a campaign campaign campaign cam cam- designed to eliminate the congestion on Main street However How ever it will be a problem for lor all people generally and those working workIng working work- work Ing on Main street particularly If Ir anything much la is to be done There are a number of or vacant lots In the middle of or the blocks easily accessible from Main street on which cars that are not being used during the day could be parked thus leaving the parking space available for outside or local people who come cometo to shop or conduct other business and to tourists who wish to stop here for meals etc Such lots are located between the library and armory back of Marsden store the telephone ex exchange exchange ex- ex exchange change the Power company Thornton Thornton Thornton Thorn Thorn- ton Drug Shop Record Office the Thorley Building and In Inthe inthe inthe the center of ot the block back of the Bank building If business employees employ employ- ees would park in these areas much space on Main street would be left open The City has hat expressed a willingness willingness willing willing- ness to cooperate by opening driveways driveways driveways drive drive- ways back of or some of the buildings and b by painting parking lanes on Main street so that the space can be utilized to the best advantage Another problem that will probably probably probably pro pro- bably bably- require a city ordinance is that of parking In the avenues leadIng leadIng leadIng lead- lead Ing onto nto Main street between center center center cen cen- ter street and First North The com- com will probably recommend that an ordinance be passed limiting of the avenues and placing a time limit It of not more than a half an hour in these areas City officials have expressed a willingness to put such an ordinance Into effect when the committee submits a complete program for approval |
