Show PEOPLEOFWORLD, i WASHINGTON, Aug. 18. Held for Austrian court martlals which probably probab-ly will sentence them to death, 125 Polish soldiers who led an armed revolt re-volt in the Austrian army in February, have issued appeals to the Polish people peo-ple throughout the world asking them not to compromise the freedom of Po-1 land with the idea of securing any alleviation al-leviation of their prospective sentences, sen-tences, according to dispatches re ceived here today by the Associated Polish Press Tho officers and men are a part of the Polish ' Carpathian Iron brigade ' which marched from Bukowina into Bessarabia under the command of ( General Heller. Part of the force was captured by the Germans, but the larger larg-er portion is said to have been consolidated consol-idated with the Czecho-Slovak army. "The fear that torments us," the text of the appeal says, "is that the real Polish strength, so vital to the success of our holy cause may be lessoned les-soned by the attempts of our political politi-cal representatives In tho Austrian parliament to secure for us relief, or to avert the fate that awaits us. "It is therefore, in our name and that of our soldiers that we plead ar- dently with the Polish nation which has surrounded us with such moral comfort, to take full cognizance of our words and to desist from exercising any influence in our case upon the Polish parliamentary club in Austria. If they make any attempt to secure concessions for us, it will bo contrary to our wishes for wc know that such concessions can only be had by pledges, compromises and commitments, commit-ments, which will make to the detriment detri-ment of the Polish nation and the lessening les-sening of tho strength In the batllt for Ppllsh freedom and independence." |
