HALVERSON L. L. Halverson j At Helm Since Opening in 1952 Five years ago the first subur-- . ban department store opened its doors to the public in the heart : jot Sugar House. The new Ultra modern store, Keith O'Brien, Sugar House, had as its manager, Mr. L. L. Hal-verson, 1204 South 18th East, Su gar House businessman who has . remained at the helm of its op-eration since that time. Now as the store approaches its fifth anniversary on Novem-- . ber 19, it will mark a milestone of progress, both for the store and its manager. Mr. Halverson, who has served, Keith 'O'Brien for the past ; 21 years, was recently elected presi-dent of the company by the board! of directors. In this capacity he will be in charge of operations both for the Sugar House and Downtown Salt Lake City stores. Mr. Halverson's career with Keith O'Brien included positions as controller and merchandise manager before he became mana- - ger of the Sugar House store five . years ago. He is a member of the Sugar House Rotary Club, Fort Douglas Golf Club,-Suga- r House Chamber of Commerce and the Salt Lake .Chapter, National Association of Cost Accountants. He is also ac-tive in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Da- y Saints, serving as . a member of the Bonneville Stake . High Council. Mr. Halverson has a wife and . four sons, Vern serving with the ( Air Force a,t Biloxi, Miss., Brent serving on a mission for the LDS Church in the northwest, and Gar-ry and Stephen, residing in Sugai House. , Mr. Halverson is a gradulte of the Utah State Agricultural Col-lege at Logan. . 'Back to School' The Holladay School PTA will hold the annual back-to-scho- ol night, Thursday, Nov. 7 and all parents are invited to attend the meeting. Elmer J. McCONKlE Valley View Stake Marks Birthday With Conference Celebrating a 1-- birthday with quarterly conference, the Valley View Stake will hear Bruce Mc-Con-kie as the featured speaker. Dairymen Get Invitation To Convention Dairymen of the Salt Lake area this week were issued a special invitation to participate in the an-nual convention of the American Dairy Association of Utah in Salt Lake City, on Saturday, Nov. 30. Meetings will be at Hotel Utah. The invitation was issued by Welby W. Young, Heber City, ADA of Utah president. ADA of Utah chairman for Salt Lake County is Arion Erekson of Murray, assist-ed by Joseph F. Parrish, county agent. Mr. Young . added that official hostess for the convention will be lovely Marilyn Anderson of Lehi, Utah's Dairy Princess. She will be assisted by her two attend-ants, Carol Ralphs of Ferron, Em-ery County and Sherry Bunting of Kanab, Kane County. A. J. Observing 41st Anniversary A pioneer Sugar House business firm is celebrating its 41st year this year.' The business, Petty Motor locat-ed at the corner of 9th East and 21st South Sts., was brought into the area , in 1906 by its founder, Charles Petty. Since then, it has grown rapid-ly and is now serving the parts departments of agencies through-out the area and in several bord-ering states.-- ' Petty Motor, the distributor foi Ford automobiles, had become one of the largest and finest automo-- bile agencies in the Intermountair area. Norman C. Petty is presidenl and general manager. Added recently to their 9th Easl and 21st South location was an outstanding colored, plastic revol-ving sign which has brought nat-ional acclaim to the business. Pictures of the firm and the sign have been published in twc magazines. Sugar House B.P.W. Dates Director Of . Rehabilitation Dr. Chester A. Swinyard, direc-tor of rehabilitation center, Uni-versity of Utah, School of Medi-cine,, will address the members df the Sugar House BPW Club Wednesday evening. The meeting will be held at 7 o'clock in the Garden Room of the Harmon Cafe 1270 East 21st South, November 13, 1957. Dr. Swinyard will tell of plans for the General Hospital in regard to rehabilitation. ' Mrs. Beatrice McHarg will speak on safety on the highway. Mrs. . Petty' is located at the corner of 9th East and 21st South. The firm was founded in 1906. BrownAppointed Ballard Manager The appointment of Dick Brown as general sales manager at Russ . Ballard Auto, Inc., 633 South Main, . dealer for Ford Motor Company's new Edsel and the English - built Ford was announced today by ma-- . nager Russ Ballard. Dick has a background of 12 years in the automobile business. Upon release from the armed . forces following World War II, Dick went to work as a mechanic at Capital Chevrolet. He has been dealing with automobiles in one capacity or another since that time, having been associated also with Lyman Motor Company, Bur-gess Motor Company and Cour-tesy Motors. He was formerly sales manager at L. H. Strong Motor Company. Native of Salt Lake City, Dick is a graduate of Jordan High School and attended Utah State Un-iversity and University of Utah.
