November 7, 1957 INDEPENDENT Fall Party Discloses Engagement ; Of Julia Diane Rockwood One of the lovely announcement parties of the fall season was the announcement of the engagement of Miss Julia Diane Rockwood, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Rockwood, 2471 15th East,-t- o Donald J. Jackson, Saturday afternoon at their home. : Hostesses at the party were Mrs. Clarence C. Nelsen, Mrs. H. D. Lowry, Mrs. Vern K. Yoho, Mrs. Ray C. Johnson, Mrs. W. H. Rock-wood, and Mrs. Lewis F. Rock-wood, all aunts of the bride-elec- t. , A bridal theme of pink and white carried out the festive an-nouncement Tea. The serving table was centered with white wedding bells attached to large pink and silver hearts with pink satin bows. White pompon chrys-anthemums completed the artistic decor. The wedding news was reveal-ed to the guests from miniature white bells, tied with pink satin ribbons and attached to tiny pink and silver hearts. The hearts op-ened to disclose the nuptial news, "Diane and Don . . . Dec. 5." Serving at the announcement party were Mrs. Trulon Rock-wood, Mrs. LaVar Rockwood, Mrs. Don Remington, Miss Joyce Lowry and Miss Julie Johnson. The young couple will exchange wedding vows in rites to be re-cited in the solemnity of the Salt Lake Temple. Following the cere-mony they will be honored with a wedding breakfast and that even-ing will be feted at a reception in the Stratford Ward. The bride-ele- ct is a graduate of the University of Utah, where she was a member of the Lambda Delta Sigma: Her fiancee return-ed recently from an LDS mission in the West-Centr- al States. He is continuing his studies at the U of U. Following their marriage they will make their home in Salt Lake City. It Happened at The BEAU fourteen employees of the Winder Dairy enjoyed a steak dinner sponsored by their company. On Thursday, the regular Sugar House Rotary Board luncheon and business meeting was held. Fri-day, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald N. Spratling gave a wedding dinner for their son, Ronald N. Spratling Jr. and new daughter-in-la- w, the former Myrna Clark. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Jack P. Clark. The couple was married Thurs-day, Oct. 24 in the LD.S. Temple. Their reception was held on Fri-day at the Bonneville Stake Cen-ter. The couple are honeymooning in Las Vegas. Mrs. Irene Larkin made arrangements for eight of her group for luncheon and bridge. Mrs. George A. Taylor was hostees for her bridge club for luncheon. The eight ladies get together twice each month. BY LA RAE McMANAMA The busy social week began Sunday with Mr. Walter DeBois acting as host for four guests at dinner. On Monday, David Garvin cele-brated his ninth birthday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Gar-vin. David's birthday was Oct. 29. He is a member of the birthday club so was presented with ice cream and a lovely birthday cake. He was quite impressed with the cake which was taken to his grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Swan-son- 's home and was enjoyed by all. Also on Monday evening Sheryl Ann Erjckson celebrated her birthday with her family and a lit-tle friend. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Erickson. Her brother, Bobby, and her little friend, Katherine Smith, all en-joyed the birthday dinner party. Mrs. H. C. Molder made ar-rangements for ten friends for a birthday celebration on Wednes-day evening. Mrs. Earl Hicks was hostess for six at luncheon1 on Wednesday. Mrs. Julian Kimball was host-ess for her bridge group on Fri-day for luncheon. There are eight ladies in her group and they meet twice each month. Mr. L. E. Radler was host for eight of his business associates at a smorgasbord dinner on Friday evening. Also on Friday evening, Mrs. L. K. Mackay gave a din-ner party for ten of her friends, The Rotary District Conference held a business meeting Wednes day morning and the 75 enjoyec luncheon and continued the bus-iness meeting after. That evening Demos Slate Convention in Nevada City Young Democrats is being held at Reno, Nevada, November 7 through 9. Attending the conven-tion from Utah are the following delegates and alternates: Allan T. Howe, General State Chairman, and his wife, Marlene; Dean Mit-he- ll and wife, Lavon; Leon Ward, Grant MacFarlane, Jr. President of the Salt Lake County Young Democrats, and his wife, Ardis; Daniel Dix, Mrs. Delores (Billy) Clayp, Nancy Larsen, Ann Mc-Donau- gh and Robert Moore. The temporary chairman will be Senator Frank Church, and the permanent chairman will be Con-gressman Wayne Udall. The spea-kers will be Paul Butler, Demo-crat National Convention; Katy Loucheim, vice chairman of the Democrat National Convention; Senators John F. Kennedy, Hubert Humphry, Allan Bible and Wayne Morse. Also speaking will be Governor G. Mennen Williams, Congress-man Walter Baring, and Nevada State Chairman, C. D. Baker, who will also greet the delegates. Social Club Holds Halloween Party The Cottonwood Club held a Hal-loween party at the club house October 22 and gay costumes high-lighted the affair. Those who at-tended were Dr. and Mrs. James Spear of the social committee who were delightfully dressed, Mrs. Spear coming dressed in her mo-ther's opera costume, with the or-iginal clothes worn by her mother, and Mr. Spear attended as a wolf Dr. and Mrs. Tedrow, as a harem girl and a cowboy; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Springmeyer came as can-nibals (intergrated); Mr. and Mrs. Howard Collins cams as the Asia-tic Flu and his victim; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Patterson, a cowboy and a girl dressed in a burlap sack (Saks Fifth Avenue ... of course); Mr. and Mrs. Tim Carter came as an old fashioned girl and an Austrian with the real leather trousers; Mr. and Mrs. Allan Shott came as the Prince and the Paup-er, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moore were Chinese. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Hanson were a cowboy and "Wyatt Burp;" Mr. and Mrs. Dwight King as King Arthur and Lady Gweniviere; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Paglau came as a policeman and his prisoner. Games were layed, prizes were given for the best costumes, a midnight supper was held, and dancing was enjoyed. Clement, 1765 White Avenue have recently returned from a vacation in Ca-lifornia. They visited their son Walter H. Clement, his wife Shir-ley and three-year-ol- d Steven in Mountain View. Walter is an en-gineering student at San Jose Jr. College there. They also spent a few days sightseeing in San Fran-ojsc-o and returned home by way of Yosemite National Park. Mrs. Clement said they had a wonder-ful trip and certainly enjoyed see-ing their little grandson, Steven. Mrs. Robert Kent, 5107 West Moor, Holladay, was hostess for the sewing club, Thursday even-ing, Oct. 24. The dinner was,buffet style California casserole, stuff-ed baked potato, jello fruit salad and merange chiffon pie topped with strawrberries and whipping cream was served and enjoyed by everyone. This , was the first get-togeth- er following the three-mont- h summer vacation. The members meet each month at one another's homes, have dinner, sew and visit. The members are Mrs. Len Carlson, Mrs. Roy Scott, ; Mrs. I.M. Bowers, Mrs. ; Haden - Barnhurst, Mrs. Tony Ballatore, 1 Mrs. Gene Barnhurst, Mrs. Roy Thomas, Mrs. Royal Barnhurst, ; and Mrs. Robert McManamama.
