meeting last oven ng by councilman chambers int ng the rio grando western officials 0 o inspect the facilities offered by u in the way of a site tor the new lapair shops to be built somewhere along their line the resolution pledged the council to combine with he weber club in an endeavor to secure the shops for this city the resolution was prompted by the fact that recently a alre destroyed the shops in salt lake and by tha tact that the road was considering the erection of shops at some point on their line where better fire protection was offered ahn at salt lake mayor glasmann submitted a communication muni cation vetoing the franchise raising the salaries of the patrolmen and members of the fire department his objection being based on the raise made in the salary of the janitor of the city hall to the president an members of the city council ogden utah gentlemen I 1 return herewith the ordinance increasing the calary of the police department the fire department and the city janitor without my approval 1 I desire to call your especial attention to the salary of the city janitor when we first came into office he received a salary of 40 per month and be advised me that he would be glad al that price why that price should be increased 50 per cent when the janitor has been anxious to keep uie place at a t 40 per month I 1 cannot understand the janitor re ceides from the city free light free room tree coal and tree gas for cooking purposes this with the 60 per month would be equal to 75 per month after of the school board I 1 learn that the price paid by the school board is 45 to 55 per month for janitors 55 being paid for the largest school buildings there ia from two to three times as much work in the school buildings as there is in the city hall the county court house which furnishes two or three times as much work as the city hall does paya only 50 per month to tho court house janitor who must also take care of he lawn and sidewalks which our aty janitor declines to do 1 I have no serious objections to tha email increase of 5 to 10 per month for the policemen and firemen but I 1 think the matter should toe deterred to the incoming administration very respectfully submitted WM GLASMANN mayor after the reading of the on from the mayor councilman chambers arose and said that as the mayor was in his office he suggested hat president carr appoint a
