| Show arader ELY BUT NEVADA NORTHERN TRACK LAYERS LAG BEHIND steel for new railroad arriving slow ly and work may be stopped until spring from wednesdays standard to date there have been but seventeen of track laid and miles of grading on the new nevada northern there being about ninety miles more of grading than track constructed it ft as stated last night by one of the contractors on the work that unless supplies arrived in he camps along the route with more dispatch it would be necessary to abandon tho work until spring a contingency that had not been expected as when the contract was let it was expected that the work would progress without any especial hindrance in tho yards at omar there la any quantity of material amed up designed for the construction of the road and for buildings at ely but the lack of facilities for transporting the material handicaps the work to euch a degree as to be serious it had been figured that the steel gang on the road could keep within ten miles of the grading gangs but the arrival of the abeel has been slow and gradually the grading has pushed ahead of the abeel it ia now ninety miles in advance this means that the supplies for the grading camps must be packed that distance with all of the added expense and delay to say nothing of the hardship to both man and beast in the transportation it is understood that tho grading work will be discontinued until the early spring in order to give the steel gang an opportunity to catch up with the work tor it the grading progressed at tha cresent rate ely would toe reached within a short time and considering the weather conditions in that part of the country it might be sl to go over a large part of ahe work again in the spring when once the weather opens up in the spring the work of completing th road will be pushed and it is expected that late in the spring the nevada northern will be in full operation |
