OVESON, Cleveland County Assessor E. J. GRANGE, Huntington Superintendent of Schools j WM. T. REID of Orangeviile Mr. Smoot(and other speakers) charge the Democrates with extravagance and compare the appropriations for the "fiscal "fis-cal year 1913 with the appropriation made by the present session of Congress for the fiscal year 1915. They then blandly say that the Democrats have increased appropriations $96,000,000. Why do they compare the next to the last year of Taft's administration with the first year of the Wilson administra-1 administra-1 tion? Why don t they compare the first year of the Wilson adminisl ration with the last year of the Taft administration, I and thus discover that the actual increase in-crease is less than $11,000,000? But taking the figures of the fiscal year 1913, why do they confess the fact that the republican senate, of which Smoot was then an eminent leader.added $76,-859,154 $76,-859,154 to the appropriation as passed by the Democratic house? And why don't they confess that President Taft, for the fiscal year 1914 submitted estimates esti-mates aggregating $1,150,000,000, which the Democratic house cut more t!ian$76,-000,009 t!ian$76,-000,009 but which were increased more-than more-than $24.000', 000 by the Republican Aldrich-Smoot senate? Why don't they make this admission and show that the total for 1914 aggregated $1,098,000,000. (Advertisement) (Advertisement) I To Uphold and Support Your President Put Your X Under the Rooster |
