Show TH1HK THIS OVER, VOTERS! Do you, as a citizen of the United States of America, fully sense the greatness of your President, Woodrow Wilson? Do you realize that this truly-great truly-great man, with the Angel of Death hovering in his household, carried his and your country through the Mexican crisis in such a manner that every i citizen of every South American repub- lie now, for the first time, has absolute I faith and trust in the unselfish integrity : of your Uncle Sam, and that nearly j every Mexican (with the possible exception ex-ception of the blood-thirsty Huerta), i has all respect and love for President Wilson and the sovereign people he ! represents? Do you realize that the personal rep-! rep-! resentatives of your President, the i members of the diplomatic corps abroad ! are caring for the interests of fr m j four to six of the nations of the world, and doing their country honor in the service? Do you realize that history is being made as perhaps never before on the : face of the earth and that, when the I powers decide to stop their slaughter ! and talk peace, your Uncle Sam is going go-ing to be called on for his good offices in the greatest mediation council the world has ever known? - Do you realize that the United States, during the next few months, is going to establish herself on an independent, j plane to that extent that another war (if such there ever be) will not inconvenience incon-venience this ceuntiy one iota? . In view of these FACTS are YOU going to help send Smoot and Howell ! back to the halls of Congress to oppose, ! retard and hinder, at every turn of his ' hand, the greatest president we have ! ever had since Lincoln? When Preai-j Preai-j dent Wilson, during the balance of his ! service in the interests of his country, turns to Utah's statesmen for counsel or support, is he again going to be rewarded reward-ed by the stony glare of traitorous opposition op-position or is he going to look upon the faces of Messrs. Moyle and Larson and feel that he has true friends in this greatest state in the whole union-friends union-friends who have undertaken to sei that true patriots are sent to Washington Washing-ton as representatives of Utah, "queen of the west. " The leading authorities on such matters mat-ters in the country, are freely predicting a bigger Democratic ni -jnrity than ever for the next national legislature and why should Utah longer lag behind her patriotic sisters? President Wilson, last Monday, telegraphed his indorsement indorse-ment of James H. Moyle and expressed the hope that Utah's citizens would back up his confidence in this fearless fighter for the clean progress of Utah. And are you going to let a Logan man go back to Congress to represent you in place of Lewis Larson of Manti, who is thoroughly acquainted with Emery county and this whole section of Utah, just because Howell wants to draw mileage and a good, fat salary for his thirteenth year? (Thirteen is claimed to be unljcky and it is very certain in this case to be fatal at least for the interests of our people.) Do you believe that the judiciary and the government of our schools shou'd , be as far removed as possible from the ; influence of politics? If you do then 1 vote for the Hon. Frank B. Stephens, candidate for judge of the Utah sup- : rjme court; the Hon. Dr. Ephraim G. Gowans, candidate for state superintendent superin-tendent of public instruction; and our I own home boy, William T. Reid, candi- ; date for county superintendent of schools three men who have been selected sel-ected for their fitness for the :iri..m positions, irrespective of political belief. When it comes to state senator, donV you think a man from San Jujn county would have our interests more at heart than a man from Vernal? Two in le-pendent le-pendent papers (the Moan "Times" and the Green River "Dispatch") both of which have the interests of their people most at heari, have come out openly for Lemuel H. Redd of Grayson, San Juan county a very successful man who would indeally represent southeastern south-eastern Utah in the state legislature where a right good hbusecleanin;; is going go-ing to take place this winter if the voters send tne right men up there. For the position of representative to the legislature a people cannot select too good a man, and Ira R. Browning, the Democratic nominee from Emery i county, is one of the best fitted men for I j that position in the state. Being vitally I interests'.! in the development of the ; county, fro. n his many ani varied in-: in-: terests in the section, Emery county, ; ! will have good cause to be proud for j what thi man i an and will do for ur. i Do you think that Gren River, with j her rub surrounding territory which ; helps out the assessed valuation of Em-j Em-j erv county ty some $400,000 do you 1 think that this modern little city should I always be without representation a-1 I mong the influential officers of the 1 I county and all for the sake of a few dollars which can soon be saved by t I making unnecessary a single trip of the i whole board of county commissioners to that section? O. R. Gillespie, Democratic Dem-ocratic candidate for 4-year commis- , sioner, is one of Emery county's best' citizens and will look after the interests of the whole of Emery county as well as Green River, his adopted home. Peter Rasmussen jr., of Molen, can-; didate for 2-year cemmissioner, hails from a section that also needs representation. repre-sentation. Ferroh, Molen and Clawson form a big unit of country, and Mr. Rasmussen would, without a doubt, j j make an ideal representative for that section and the whole county of Emery. Do you believe in putting the best men possible into office? If you do, then Wm. G. Peacock jr., of Orangeviile Orange-viile for clerk, will surely get your vote. "Willie" is tending to his own : business, strictly, some 100 per cent of j the time, and so will say little for himself, him-self, but he has plenty of friends who know him for his integrity, energy, : fairness and fitness for the important office of county clerk. ! Do you endorse the excellent work of the paijt two years in the offices of re corder and treasure? The correspondence, correspond-ence, reports, and other work incidental to these two offices have been kept right up-to-the-minute and the courtesy and industry of Messrs. Hector Evans j and Carl Berg surely merit a vote of thanks for their work in the form of a big majority for a second term at these two offices. Incidentally, the expense of deputy Work has been kept down to an unthought-of degree in both of these offices during these gentlemen's incumbency, in-cumbency, as may be seen by comparing compar-ing the regular financial reports. For the position of county surveyor, the demand is principally for a man whose ability can be absolutely relied upon, and the declination of the nomination nomi-nation on the other ticket by Mr. Woodruff, leaves the whole field to Thos. R. Faddis, who is a highly competent com-petent man and who will make an excellent ex-cellent county servant. The position of sheriff of Emery county coun-ty has been filled in the past by men with remarkable good sense and judgment judg-ment and O. W. Sitterud of Orangeviile the Democratic candidate this year, is another man who will fill this place to perfection. He has remarkable good tact, and can be trusted to use every means possible to take care of the peace and welfare of our county, in the best possible manner. In the Democratic candidate for county attorney we have a young man who can boast of nothing but a good e lucSti mi, an unusually bright intellect, a remarkable amount of native ability, good, sound judgment, and ;i lot of good, common sense. The question of legal ability should always come second to these qualities at any time, and men in the past who knew no more of law when elected than Mr. Oveson have studied hard (as he will do) ani are now enjoying enviable reputations as legal lights of the west. In the matter of county assessor we have a decided instance of the office hunting for the man. E. J. Grange of Huntington had not wanted this position posi-tion and is not very partial to the job now, but people throughout the county who know him and know of him are sure to see that such an ideal man and such a particular office do not long stay separated. Never before has there been a ticket which could be voted STRAIGHT with better satisfaction than the one headed by the ROOSTER this year. |
