Show ADVANCE TO EAGLE The Eagle badge indicates that a scout has attained the highest rank in Scouting, and it should be the aim of every tenderfoot, to be kept in sight as he progresses up the ladder of advancement. Many examples could be given to show the value of achieving the badge, such as any Eagle scout in uniform un-iform can gain audience with the President of the United States, at one time the rank won exemption from a two-year college requirement for a position the scout was applying for and Admiral Byrd chose an Eagle to accomjany him on his South Pole Explorations. Eut the real reason most boys value the award is that it offers a test of "being prepared" and a real challange because ten out of twenty-one badges are on required subjects and the scout is expected to demonstrate leadership and shown by his actions that he lives the Scout Oath and Law. Gaining the Eagle rank does not mean that scouting has no more to offer the boy. He may continue to qualify for additional ad-ditional merit badges and he shuld help the new tenderfoot and younger scouts to "trail the Eagle." |
